forevrseptember Yoochun laid spread out on the riverbank, staring up at the sky, smile on his face.
Junsu-yah, you can hear me right? Remember what you told me? For me to live happily. Well I’m doing my best to keep our promise. It’s hard here, but I know you’re happy, and Jaejoong smiles more now, and I think even I am regaining my smile. That’s what you wanted right? But no matter what I can’t forget you, and I will always love you.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Yoochun laughed as he watched his friends arguing over something. They were sitting in their shared dorm room, studying for their English test that was later that day.
“Yah! Yoochunnie~” Junsu whined with an adorable pout, making the boy look much younger than he really was. “Tell JaeJoong to stop teasing me.”
Yoochun shrugged. “Not helping you~” Junsu punched his arm.
“Some boyfriend you are.” The red-head mumbled. Yoochun looked at his roommate apologetically.. Junsu, Yoochun and Jaejoong had been best friends since elementary school. They had decided in middle school that, even if at the time they weren’t serious, they would go to the same university together. And, well, they got lucky enough to be dormmates. Junsu and Yoochun had always had something more with each other than with Jae; just recently they had both confessed and began dating. Everything was perfect.
Seeing as the arguing was not ending any time soon, Yoochun waved his hand in between the others’ faces. “Okay, how ‘bout this?” He had gotten their attention.
“For whoever gets at least a 95% on the test today, I will treat to the amusement park tomorrow.” He smiled as both of them sat down immediately and began to study. Yoochun didn’t really need to study English since he was pretty good at it so he stood up and grabbed his coat. “I’m going to go get us some lunch.” He said when he was questioned.
After he left Jaejoong put his head down on the desk and sighed. “Jae?”
“Sorry, Just... it’s hard to get used to.” The older replied, making Junsu’s face sadden.
“I’m sorry... hyung.” He never called Jae ‘Hyung’ unless he was being serious.
“Don’t worry about it! And don’t you dare tell him!” Jae warned before returning to cram as much English as his brain would hold.
Jaejoong had also been in love with Yoochun, but he knew that Yoochun loved Junsu. And he didn’t want to be in the way of the ones he cared the most about.
-------------------------------------------------------
“Let’s go ride on that, Yoochun!” Junsu said as he linked their fingers together before pulling Yoochun in the direction of the Ferris wheel.
Junsu has been successful on his English test while Jae had fallen short a few points. However, Yoochun had asked Jae if he would still like to come along, but Jae had rejected the offer and told them to have fun on their date, causing both of the boys to blush at the time?
“Junsu~” Yoochun whined. “You know I don’t like heights.” He looked up at the Ferris wheel towering over them.
Junsu leaned in close, lips brushing his ear as he spoke, an octave deeper. “You won’t even know you’re in the air.” Yoochun shivered at the thought and quickly headed to the line.
Once inside the cart, Yoochun’s anxiety returned, hands shaking as the contraption began to move. Junsu moved to sit in his lap and smiled before leaning and pressing his lips against his. Yoochun moaned into the kiss before responding to it, moving his lips against the other’s. Taking control of the kiss, Yoochun swiped his tongue against Junsu’s lower lip, pulling it into his mouth. As the kiss deepened Junsu began rocking in his lap, rubbing his perfect ass against the bulge forming in his pants.
“J-Junsu.” He breathed out. “We don’t have time.” He mumbled and took a peek out the window. The ride was slowing and they were the third cart from the exit. Since they just recently started dating, they hadn’t done more than heavy kissing and the sexual tension was building between them.
Yoochun was jerked out of his thoughts when Junsu realized an agonized scream, so loud the whole amusement park could have heard it. He looked up to see his boyfriend clutching at his head with his hands, tears rolling down his face.
“JUNSU!” He shook his shoulder a bit trying to get the other to look at him. “JUNSU!” He yelled once again, only to receive another agonized cry from his lover. “What’s wrong?!?”
“I... can’t... Argggh! It hurts.” He cried, dropping his head to Yoochun’s shoulder. “Make it stop, Chunnie. Make it stop,” he mumbled over and over, and the two minutes that once had felt so short seemed like a lifetime now.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Yoochun sat in the waiting room at the emergency room, head in his hands. “Yoochun!” He looked up to see Jae running down the hall. “What happened? Is Su okay?” He panted and looked around as if trying to find his little dongsaeng.
Yoochun didn’t say anything and clung to Jae and cried. Jaejoong smoothed his hair and whispered soothing words into his ears. “They are doing tests now... Hyung, I don’t even know what happened..” Another sob. “He was fine...” Another sniffle. “Then that scream, hyung, you didn’t hear that scream.”
Jae kept whispering reassurances to him as he carefully maneuvered them to one of the couches in the waiting room. They stayed like that for what seemed like hours; it probably was. Yoochun cried until he ran out of tears, his ears still echoing Junsu’s scream and the sound of ambulances.
Finally, after what seemed like forever, the doctor appeared and waved them over to a smaller waiting room, big enough for one family.
------------------------------------------------------------
Yoochun stared at the sleeping figure on the hospital bed. Everything in the room was white, lighting up the room way too much. He sat down next to the bed and took Junsu’s hand in his, letting more tears fall as he clutched at his boyfriend’s hand.
“We did some tests on Mr.Kim...” The doctor paused as he pulled out what looked like scans of a brain from Junsu’s folder. He placed them on the board and lit them up so Yoochun and Jaejoong could see. “This white spot on his brain is a malignant tumor.” Yoochun’s eyes widened and Jae had to hold him up or he would have collapsed to the floor.
“He’ll be okay though, right?” Yoochun’s voice was soft, almost desperate. When he didn’t get a response he screamed, “HE’LL BE OKAY THOUGH, RIGHT?” He had known Junsu his whole life, what would he do without his best friend? He didn’t want to think about it, because he knew Junsu would be fine.
“I’m sorry,” he said before continuing his explanation. “This type of tumor will spread, become bigger, and because of where it is located we cannot operate.” Yoochun really did fall to his knees this time, alone with Jaejoong.
“There isn’t any sort of treatment, the only thing we can do is give him medication to keep the tumor from growing, and prescribe some strong painkillers.”
“H-H-How long?” Yoochun choked out. The doctor looked away sadly.
“About six weeks.” He said, before leaving them in the room alone.
Yoochun didn’t understand. Junsu was fine yesterday, fine this morning, and now suddenly he’s going to die anytime? He felt the bed moved and looked up to see Junsu looking at him with confusion.
“Yoochun, what’s wrong? Where are we?” He asked, voice rough with sleep.
Junsu looked around the room and realized he was in a hospital bed, then he saw Jae sitting on the couch, looking at him with tears in his eyes.
“Yoochun?”
Sobs.
“Jae?”
Silence.
“Come on, you guys are freaking me out.” He chuckled a little. Yoochun couldn’t figure out how Junsu could be acting so perfectly fine and healthy... and yet... 6 weeks?
Before either Yoochun or JaeJoong had gotten the courage to tell Junsu, the doctor came in to check on him and explained what he had already explained to the others, minus how long.
Junsu stared at them all in shock. “That can’t be right... I’m fine,” he said, trying to rip the IV’s out of his arms.
“Junsu... don’t,” Yoochun said, softly holding him down so he wouldn’t injure himself. When he looked down, a look of complete fear covered the red-head’s face. “Am... Am I going to die?” He asked to no one. Yoochun didn’t say anything and just pulled him into his arms, and cried.
He pulled back from the hug after a while and brushed the hair out of Junsu’s face. “No, baby, You’ll be fine.” his voice hoarse from all the crying.
“Don’t lie to me, Chun.” He said sadly, making more tears fall from his lover’s eyes.
Yoochun suddenly stood up and left the room. Junsu looked at Jaejoong, silently asking how long. Jaejoong whimpered, and shook his head no in denial. “Fuck, Jae! Tell me! God dammit!!”
“They said it depends on how fast it grows... but they think around 6 weeks.” He whispered before moving to the bed to hold his dongsaeng.
--------------------------------------------
Junsu had to stay in the hospital a few more days but was finally released to go home. Jaejoong and Yoochun decided to take some time off school to go back to their hometown for a while. Right now, JaeJoong and Junsu were gathered at Yoochun’s house, celebrating his brother’s high school graduation.
“Yah Su-ah, slow down before you choke.” Yoochun said as he leaned into to lick a piece of cake off of his boyfriend’s cheek, causing Junsu to flush red.
Everyone was finishing up their cake and helping to clean up the table. Junsu had a slight headache today but it wasn’t anything a few painkillers couldn’t fix.
“Junsu-yah, sit down, we can clean this up.” Jae said, taking the plate from Junsu’s hand.
The red head stood up suddenly with an angry look on his face. “Can’t you guys stop treating me like I’m going to die today!?!” He screamed, tears in his eyes.
“Su..” Yoochun mumbled moving towards his boyfriend. Junsu clenched his fists.
“All day it’s been ‘Junsu sit down and rest’ or ‘Junsu are you okay?’ or ‘Junsu don’t do that, I’ll do it for you.’” A tear fell from his eye. “Fuck you guys. I’m not a piece of glass that’s going to break, so just fuck off.” He stormed up the stairs and Yoochun saw that as his cue to follow.
Just as he had suspected, Junsu had gone to his bedroom, leaving the door open. When Yoochun walked in Junsu was curled into a ball on his bed, shaking. He curled himself behind Junsu and wrapped his arm around his waist.
“Junsu...” he said as he ran his fingers through red hair.
Junsu turned around and faced him, burying his face into Yoochun’s shoulder, and sobbed.
“I’m scared, Chunnie.” he finally mumbled, and buried himself even more into Yoochun’s body. Junsu looked up, meeting Yoochun’s eyes, making him tear up as well.
“I know Junsu, I know.” He said softly stroking the side of his face gently. “So am I.” He choked out, before leaning in to place a chaste kiss on his lover’s lips.
They lay like that until eventually they fell asleep, dried tears on their faces.
---------------------------------------------------
JaeJoong leaned against the doorframe, crying, as YooHwan came up the stairs. “Jae? What’s wrong?” He asked before stepping a bit closer. Of course he knew about Junsu, but they had all cried together and promised no more tears would be shed.
“I... what will happen to Yoochun when... “ He broke off mid sentence.
“You’ll be there for him,” is all Yoohwan said before pulling the older man into a hug.
----------------------------------------------------------
One week turned into two weeks. Two weeks turned into three weeks. Three weeks turned into four weeks.
Yoochun and Junsu were sitting on the couch at Yoochun’s house, curled up together and watching TV. Yoochun was about to get up to go get them something to drink when suddenly he had a lap full of Junsu and lips pressed against his own. He moaned in surprise before responding to the kiss. Not knowing where to put his hands, he kept them by his sides.
Junsu grabbed his hands and placed them on his hips as he leaned forward more, trying to deepen the kiss. Yoochun let him take the lead. When he felt a tongue pressed against his lower lip he opened his mouth, giving Junsu what he wanted.
“J-Junsu.” Getting impatient Junsu moved his lips to Yoochun’s neck. “Junsu, what?” is all he managed before moaning. Junsu had bitten down on his collarbone, and began licking and sucking it better.
“I want you, Chunnie.” He moaned as he humped Yoochun’s legs, pulling another groan from Yoochun.
“But Junsu... you-” He tried to protest, but was silenced by Junsu’s tongue exploring his mouth again.
Junsu pulled back and leaned against his shoulder. “I don’t want to die without giving my all to you, Yoochun, please?”
Yoochun bit back tears and nodded slowly, grabbing Junsu’s ass securely, pulling a moan from him, and picked him up. Junsu squeaked in shock as he was carried up the stairs and into Yoochun’s room.
“We should at least use a bed,” is all Yoochun said before leaning in to take Junsu’s lips once more.
-------------------------------------------------------
“I love you, Yoochun.” Junsu whispered as he lay against Yoochun’s naked chest. Yoochun wrapped an arm around him and pulled him closer. “I love you too, Junsu,” he said and kissed his forehead, falling asleep shortly after.
The next morning Yoochun woke up to Junsu who was staring at him and smiled. “Morning.”
Yoochun mumbled something that sounded similar to ‘Morning, go back to sleep.’ Junsu shook his head at his lover, smiling down at his sleepy expression, and kissed his forehead.
He had thought about things after Yoochun had fallen asleep last night. ‘What will Yoochun do when I am gone?’ ‘Will Yoochun be okay?’ Things like this had plagued his mind almost all night.
“Yoochun?”
“Hmm?”
“I... What will you do when I leave?” Junsu mumbled.
“What do you mean? Where are you going?”
“I mean...” He wished Yoochun would get what he meant so he wouldn’t have to say it. “When I die.”
Yoochun’s eyes flew open as he looked at Junsu, who was looking anywhere but at him.
“I... I don’t know.” He finally mumbled.
“Jaejoong loves you.” Junsu said quickly.
“What? I know that, I love him too.” Yoochun said, confused.
“I mean... Loves you loves you.” Junsu explained.
“So? What does that have to with anything.”
“I just... I don’t want you to be sad when I leave, Chunnie.” Junsu buried his face into Yoochuns neck.
“I.. Su...”
“Promise me that you will be happy,” Junsu said, looking him straight in the eyes. Yoochun’s eyes began to water.
“Su, I can’t pro-” He was cut off by Junsu.
“Yoochun, promise me.” He said, a tear falling from his eye.
“Okay. I promise.” He mumbled, holding Junsu tightly, like he was going to disappear.
“Yoochun, let Jaejoong be there for you when I’m gone. Please?” he asked again. His own heart breaking at the request. He had just asked his lover to love someone other than himself.
“Okay.” Yoochun just wanted Junsu to be happy.
They laid in bed together the rest of the day whispers of I love you’s and reassurances of happiness.
-----------------------------------------------------
The next day Yoochun awoke to an agonizing scream coming from beside him. He sat up quickly and looked at Junsu, who was now on the floor clutching his head in pain, bottle of pain killers just out of reach. Yoochun jumped out of bed and grabbed the bottle of pills, taking two and giving them to Junsu.
Junsu still clutched his head, screaming once in awhile in pain.. Yoochun placed him on the bed. He figured he would give the medicine time to work before taking Junsu to the hospital. After fifteen minutes, the pain was still there, so he grabbed Junsu up in his arms and carried him to the car before speeding off to the hospital.
“Please stay here, Mr. Park.” A nurse told him as they took Junsu from him and put him on a stretcher. Yoochun waited in the hospital lobby for what seemed like forever. He took some time to call Jae and Junsu’s family and they were soon there with him in the waiting room.
Yoochun eyes kept pushing out tears, and he let them. He felt a hand on his own and looked up to see Jae, who was staring at him with sad eyes.
The doctor finally reappeared and motioned them over. “I’m sorry, we did all we could, the pain has stopped, but we don’t think he will make it through the night.”
Yoochun fell to the ground followed by Junsu’s mother and twin. Yoochun looked up. “Can we go see him?”
“Yes. But only one at a time.” The doctor pointed to the door where Junsu’s room was and walked away to tend to another patient.
“Yoochun, he’ll want you to be there the longest...” His mother sobbed out. “So we will go say goodbye first, okay?”
Yoochun nodded, even though he just wanted to run in to the room and hold his dying lover. But he knew that they were his family and that they loved Junsu just as much as he did. It seemed like forever before they told him he could go in, and he almost ran into the room.
He saw Junsu’s small body on the hospital bed smiling at him weakly. Junsu motioned with his hand for him to come to him. Yoochun sat on the bed next to Junsu and cried as he kissed his lips.
“Junsu...” He sobbed.
“Yoochun, you promised me.” He said and smiled weakly. Yoochun nodded and positioned himself so he was lying next to Junsu and holding him closely.
“I love you, Junsu.” He mumbled into his hair.
“I love you too, Yoochun.” He smiled and leaned up to place a chaste kiss on lips.
They lay like that talking, and smiling, and laughing, even though on the inside they were both breaking. After a while Junsu became weaker, and weaker, and then he screamed in pain again. Yoochun called for a doctor and he gave Junsu some more pain medication and Yoochun a stern look.
Yoochun held Junsu tighter, as he tried to breathe. Junsu’s eyes began to close.
“Don’t sleep yet, Junsu...” He mumbled, thinking if he could survive the night, that every thing would be okay.
“Chunnie, it hurts...” He groaned and buried into Yoochun.
“I know baby, I know.” he smoothed out the others hair. The next time he looked down he saw that Junsu’s eyes were closed and there was a smile on his lips. Yoochun panicked and looked at Junsu’s chest, it was not moving...
Yoochun cried out, clinging to the lifeless body, never wanting to let go. The doctor walked in, confirmed the time of death and allowed the other family members into the room. Yoochun refused to let go of Junsu, until JaeJoong forcibly pulled him away.
“Yoochun, stop it,” he sobbed and wrapped his arms around his friend. They cried and cried until there was nothing left in their eyes.
----------------------------------------------------------------
JaeJoong sighed as he watched Yoochun sit by the window, staring out at the river. They were some of the few lucky ones in the dorms to have the view of the lake.
“Yoochun, do you want to go get dinner with me?” Jae asked. Yoochun just shook his head.
“How about we go to the library and study?” He tried again. Yoochun once again declined him.
“God dammit, Yoochun! You don’t eat, you don’t move from that spot, and you don’t talk! Is this what Junsu would want!?” Jae pracitcally screamed at his friend.
Yoochun cried, and he hadn’t cried since the night Junsu left them. Jaejoong walked closer, about to apologize.
“I’m sorry, Jae. You’re right.” He smiled, a bit. Jaejoong ran to him and hugged him.
“Okay, let’s go.” Yoochun nodded and followed Jae out.
Even if it would take a lot of time, JaeJoong was determined to make his friend really smile again, because he too had made a promise with Junsu--to make Yoochun smile again.
