GenCon: Saturday

Aug 22, 2007 15:24

Saturday morning I woke up very early since lildomino had to be at the convention frightfully early for work. I went over to icespark’s in case she wanted to head to the convention in the early hours as planned, but after two late nights the both of us were exhausted and wound up just going back to bed. Our first event, “Mastering Your GM-Fu,” had been cancelled, so we pretty much had a free day anyway.

We got a message from ewysiwyg confirming that she’d be at the center that day, so we told her we’d try to find her while we were there. We also talked to icespark’s friends Chsa, padawan, Mabi, and Macl, and made plans to meet them for lunch. Since it was getting late, icespark and I just parked and headed directly to the restaurant, directing elbanditorojo to join us there was well. icespark’s friends had gotten a large C-shaped booth, so there was plenty of room for us all.

Lunch was expensive but yummy, and it was nice to catch up with icespark’s friends, who have made time for us the last few years they’ve been here for gencon. We appraised elbanditorojo of what we’d done so far at the convention, and he vowed to set aside more than one day next year for genconning. We got a few group pictures of all of us, and then icespark’s friends had to get going, so we split up, taking elbanditorojo and Mabi with us.

The four of us (icespark, elbanditorojo, Mabi, and I) headed back to the convention center, and spent some time wandering around the dealer room. icespark and I showed elbanditorojo some of the cooler things we’d discovered, and eventually Mabi took off when elbanditorojo and I went to see if we could still get some free swag from the Dwarven Forge (alas, we were too late). We eventually lost elbanditorojo to the allure of the electronic games, and so we left him to play while we went to meet ewysiwyg.

Besides just wanting to see ewysiwyg because we like her, we also wanted to give her tickets to This Game Sucks, since we’d signed up but now wouldn’t be able to go since we had conflicting plans in Bloomington. We found ewysiwyg out in the main hall, dressed in her punk Dorothy costume and looking extremely cute with her pink hair. She had K3! with her, and as we hung out and rested our tired feet lildomino joined us as well, fresh off her convention work shift.

We watched people stream by on their way to the costume contest, which we’d decided to skip this year due to our conflicting evening plans. It would mean missing different_drum and thegreatlukeski, but it saved us a lot of stressful running around, so it was a wise if sad decision. Instead, we headed back to the dealer room for one last walk-through.

icespark tried on a beautiful green corset, and looked incredible in it. She said she might have to start saving up her pennies. Soon it was time to leave, so I tried to call elbanditorojo, but wound up misdialing and got his wife instead. I said Hello, and then had to go so we could bid good-bye to elbanditorojo and head back to my apartment. It was a short day at the convention, but we got to hang out with fellow geeks and buy some cool stuff, so I was satisfied.

Book: “I was there, son. I'm fair sure you haven't shot anyone yet.”
