Now that we're on the eve of the United States election, I'm going to make one last plea to the public. I'd appreciate it if you spread this link around, so it can go beyond my own flist.
It's rather late in the race, I know, and most of you have already made your decision, or even voted. Still, I think this needs to be said. Regardless of how obvious it may seem, these points aren't followed nearly as often as they should be.
I've already covered everything in posts
no. 1 and
no. 2, but if you don't have the time to go back and look at those, here are the most simple and important things I said.
✪ You have to decide which candidate/party you support yourself, regardless of peer, media or other pressures around you. Base it on ideologies, not superficial things like candidate's race or appearance. (And by the same token, don't force your friends into one candidate or the other.)
✪ Emotions should not prevail in politics, ever, and it's really freaking important to stay level-headed in this crucial election.
✪ Even if you don't agree with other people, you still have to listen to what they say and respect their beliefs.
✪ Don't ruin relationships with your family or friends because of your politics. If your friends do break away from you for that reason alone, they probably didn't deserve to be your friends anyway.
✪ Always, always be working to find the truth. The media sends you mixed messages sometimes all the time, as does the internet, your friends, even your family. Rise above that in order to make your own decision.
If you do me just one favour this year, please make it following these points to the best of your ability. :]
And one final note. I honestly think it could go either way tomorrow. Obama's technically leading in the polls, but polls have been historically proven to be inaccurate within a margin of error, so it's more like 50/50. No matter what America decides, the world's still going to go on, yeah? I see a ton of people taking this election very seriously and keeping it close to their heart, and even though I think it's great that people are learning about current events, it's important to remember that. We'll all be okay, seriously! And if we don't like it, there's always 2012, lolol.
If you're wondering why I care so much: first, I live in a country that's going to be quite affected by the result, and also by the economic crisis. Second, I reaaaaalllllyyyy hate seeing the media influence people's opinions such that they can't even tell the difference between the parties' basic ideologies. When it comes down to it, it's a matter of ethics, and I'm sure none of you would like to see the results influenced by such backwards tactics either. Third, I really would like all of you to get involved in what happens to the world, to the best of your knowledge and ability. :3 Seize the day!
I didn't initially think I would have to, but I guess I should also mention that I'm not making these posts to be self-righteous or holier-than-thou, srsly. They're public service announcements for a reason: so that YOU can come along and make the best of what I'm saying. I sincerely hope you do.
Have a good one, all ♥ ♥
