❝ let's chat! ❞
Hello: it's a Saturday night/Sunday morning, October, maybe pretty dark and rainy out. What better to do than tool around on LJ, right? Here's a place to do exactly that; only in a more organized and hopefully more enlightening way :D

Or more like, just discussing books that you like or short stories/poetry, etc. I'm in love with anything by Franz Kafka, William Shakespeare, and F. Scott Fitzgerald. *A* Also, e.e. Cummings poetry aaaaaand The Phantom Tollbooth. ♥

I had to read "The Metamorphosis" in high school and I've been hooked ever since. I purchased the complete collection of his work and whenever I need some inspiration, that's always the first place I look. *__*

Oh, I know. He takes storylines that seem commonplace or at least ... not things that you should be able to write a lot about? And he just makes them so special somehow.

rofl I just took my SAT literature test earlier today, how fitting! *A* It had this nice poem called Prosody 101 which I really enjoyed analyzing (though I didn't enjoy the multiple choice, ahdslkjahs).

I do enjoy me some Fitzgerald and Shakespeare as well! Reading Hamlet in school this year = SO GOOD. ♥ Which is your favourite play?

And I love Jodi Picoult's work too, because her books read like movies and are so thought-provoking. Though they're probably too sappy for some people :'D

Ohhh yeah, one of my students took it, too! XD I'm glad to hear one of the poems was nice, maybe she did well, then.

My favorite Shakespeare play is definitely 12th Night. Haha I loved "She's The Man"! 8Db I also really liked "Death of a Salesman", play-wise, though that obviously wasn't written by Shakespeare.

I haven't read anything by her, unfortunately. :O Any recs?

Ooh, that's so cool! Well not cool for her, but like a cool coincidence xD I hope so too~ \o/

I studied that back in grade 7, so I hardly remember anything asldjhfs D: but from what I do remember, it was pretty crazy, in a good way! I should really read more plays, I've only heard the name of that one :B

no waaaaay xD Definitely go for Songs of the Humpback Whale or My Sister's Keeper first, to get into the spirit of her books. If you like American comics, The Tenth Circle is pretty amazing too *A* They all cover hard-hitting topics as well as in-depth family issues, it's great!

Ahahaha, I have the complete collection of Shakespeare that my grandfather gave me as a kid so I've been a huge Shakespeare fan since I was young. xD

I've heard of My Sister's Keeper and read the little blurb on the back one day, but I'm not really one for super-serious literature like that for some reason, so I never picked it up. 0_o

oooh it must be so good all put together! *A* That's awesome~

I see, yeah, it's preeeeeetty dramatic! But then sometimes there's spiffy court cases and pretty hilarious one-liners, so it makes up for it xD

Maybe I'll give it a try sometime, then! :O

Jodi Picoult! I've only read four of her books, but she's one of my favorite authors. Which of her books have you read?

Wow! That's a lot~ I've read (in order lol) The Pact, My Sister's Keeper, Vanishing Acts, and The Tenth Circle. I own almost all of her books though and just need to find the time to read them. I want to read Nineteen Minutes next because I fell in love with Jordan McAfee in The Pact (which I definitely recommend because it was my favorite of the four) and I heard he's in that one also. Which book is your favorite? Change of Heart sounds so good, but I'm waiting for it to come out in paperback before I buy it :P

Yeah! It's funny, it didn't seem like so many at the time, but now that I look back at it, it's like "dude, when did I read all those" xD That's an awesome selection! \o/ Hope you get around to reading the rest, they just seem to get better and better each time you pick up a new one 8D Oh yeah, I'll definitely look out for The Pact~ I think my favourite so far is My Sister's Keeper because it's such a classic, and Songs of the Humpback Whale too, and alsjkdfhas all of them. rofl, so hard to choose ♥

I agree! The last time I put one of her books on my shelf, I was shocked with how many I owned. I'll definitely go and get Songs of the Humpback Whale, because that's one of the few I don't own. Aaah I think I should another start one of her books soon! :D
