Review: Young Justice Episodes 1 + 2

Jan 12, 2011 20:13

Hello everyone, it's me again. It's been a while since I've actually updated my blog and it's mostly because I've been busy at work. Anyway last night I watched Young Justice with Kelli. I really wanted to see this movie but I never had the chance to watch it on TV, and then there was a sketch on Conan O'Brien which made me want to see the movie even more. For those of you who don't know Young Justice is a TV series that is going to air on cartoon network later in January. I'm not the type who gets overly excited at superhero/sidekick TV shows. While that's not always true, but I was a little bit nervous since Teen Titans was a little bit weird. Teen Titans was not bad per se but the characters I liked ended up not having a bigger role in the show. However, Kelli and I seem to have been really excited by watching this show and I'm just getting give you a little bit of a review. I'll try not to spoil too much of the movie for you, so I'm gonna put everything behind a LiveJournal cut. Be aware that there might be a little bit of spoilers but I won't give away too much of the ending, though it'd TV series so the ending is it like super crazy or anything.

The show starts off in one of the many DC universe is, one that I probably don't remember considering there's about 3 million of them. The show starts off with Robin, Speedy, Kid Flash, and Aqualad. The beginning of the episode starts off with all four of them being excited for some reason. Each one of them seems to be pushing their leader to take them somewhere, saying "today is the day, today is the day". You almost get a little tired of hearing them say it because you're sitting here thinking "Okay tell me what this day is". In fact Kelli and I actually commented that we just want to know what the day was.

It turns out that the group of young men were good be able to go inside Justice league headquarters. Unfortunately they are not able to go into the actual HQ, as Speedy, the sidekick of Green Arrow, becomes angry and leads the group throwing down his hat. This is a dramatic moment that shows a teenager going through an emotional phase. It's so over the top, I couldn't help but laugh.

Anyway to make a long story short, the 3 left over sidekicks decide to go against their leader's wishes and go on a mission on their own. During this mission were introduced to the three young men and their different personalities. Robin is not the same as he was in the Teen Titans show. Which to me is a good thing because I wasn't very fond of his character in that show. Robin in this show is much more playful and even has a little psychotic laugh. I have to admit I love it when he shows up just because of his stupid little cackle. Kid flash, who is sometimes called flash junior despite his wishes, is always rushing into things and generally being quite silly. I am rather fond of this because it reminds me of flash himself who is also rather a ladies man and very silly. Aqua lad is the serious type of the show and is definitely showing some good leadership qualities. I have a good feeling that when the time comes he's gonna be the one that leads the team. He has some very cool skills especially considering that most people make fun of Aquaman for being generally useless.

The group heads into an underground facility where they run across to a ton of monsters known as genomes, and there's a couple different types of them which I'm sure will see more of them in later episodes. One of the biggest points in this two episode movie is that they come across a clone of Superman known as Superboy. The group decides to free him, and instead of him being the appreciative Superboy actually attacks him because he's being controlled by the genomes. The Young Justice group find themselves being captured by their enemies and at some point are able to persuade Superboy that he is not a bad guy. However this does not stop Superboy from acting like a jerk.

In the end the group does things, yada yada yada, don't want to give too much more information but it's a really good movie especially if you like superhero stuff, like me. The animation is pretty good, and I really hope it's not this great just because it's a TV movie special. I have high hopes for this series and I hope they maintain the quality that was presented in this episode. The character designs are pretty awesome, the fighting scenes are exciting, the voice acting is pretty good, and I just love most of the characters (except Superboy, because he's a bit of a douche). We also meet Martian Man Hunter's niece, Miss Martian. You can already sense the love interests coming off at the end of the episode.

If you are looking for something enjoyable to watch, and you love watching cartoons like me, you should definitely try to find a copy of this movie. I'm sure they're going to show it on cartoon network again so you won't have to wait very long to see it. Again I'm hoping that the whole series holds up to the quality of his two episode mini movie. If not I think I still might be interested in sticking around to watching a few episodes just because the characters amuse me so much (except Superboy). I have to say my favorite is Kid Flash and I hope that he does not become a comedy relief character like Beast Boy from the Teen Titans.

That's it for this review, once again I'm using Dragon in trying to get used to this program, so there's any major errors I am trying to get better at telling the program the right words to say. So far it's doing okay, and I really like it. I'll probably do some more reviews like this one. That's it for now.
