That whole background and family headcanon of Kurogane's because I'm bored and like the idea of stealing it.
Born to mother and father in Grand Chokmah, Malkuth's capital. Youngest of three children; shortly after being born the war with Kimlasca flared up again and baby Peony was sent off to Ketelburg along with his mother far too soon for her to recover; barely newborn he was considered the unwanted, unable-to-fight son and stuck in SnowTown to be mostly forgotten and she was just baggage for a man at war. Between that and the conditions in Ketelburg her condition deteriorated and she eventually died when Peony was six. Mother was denied a royal burial or state funeral due to wartime, buried outside G.Chokmah. Peony stays in Ketelburg, making a retard collection of friends (Jade, Dist) and a girlfriend (Nephry). Father pays little to no attention: busy with the war, his health worsening as pressures mount, his two elder sons die in service and Hod EXPLODES and he dies a rather dejected and broken and angry man when Peony is 18. Peony is recalled to the capital, where the council forcibly end the whole thing with Nephry. Peony gets VERY EMO and there's a whole manga side story about this but they reconcile and get over it and move on and Peony decides to try a new thing for rulers, that being saying 'fuck the war, man' and trying to be the best damn ruler he can for HIS PEOPLE. After camp he would... continue to do so. It's too important for him. But he would throw a lot more research grants at those dudes in Rocket Town. Go find my retards k. ._.
Mother died very early; possibly during childbirth? Seems likely. Father brings up Kamina 'right' - is a rare and vitality-filled man amongst those underground. I figure they must've moved a lot and only recently came to Jiha village when Kamina was about 5-6 and his dad finds a way up to the surface. Dad leaves, telling Kamina to follow him when he's ready. Kamina goes back down to village and instantly gets locked up for a spell by the furious stick-in-the-mud village chief and forced to watch as their tunnel is filled in. INSTANT BELLIGERENCE GO. Finds and takes the kids of the village under his wing, starts revolution movement. Simon's kind of a special case because the other kids just pay lip service but Simon's WIDEEYED AND BELIEVING. After camp, would probably step back a bit from the whole war thing since Simon asked him to and has moved forward past him. Is holy-shit-fucking-proud about this. (see my fics for more on this)
The youngest child of a generation of quite a noble family, Nozomu was kind of spoiled but also got little attention for it. Eventually driven to despair at an early age by the rising price of candy and the lack of solvency brought on by a tiny child's stipend (where small child wages were a whole other despair altogether), went through a sequence of rebellious emo phases then eventually wised up (slightly) and moved out at 18 to hit up teacher training, determined to spread his teachings to others. A highly focused mind on the task provided award-winning scores and a solid tenured job at a local school, while support from the main house got him a good place to live and a decent living paypacket. After camp, would not do anything different whatsoever. This is all normal for him. WARNING: This story is liable to change every episode.
