Shingo woke up around half-past 5 to find a curled up Subaru on his doorstep. His friend looked like a train ran over him and his eyes were red and wet.
“I… I don’t want to go home. And I can’t sleep. Can I stay?”
The younger one sighed and made him come inside. He sensed that this had something to do with Maru, but he also knew that Subaru had to open up by himself; asking questions would lead him to nowhere. So, instead of talking, he went to the kitchen and turned the coffee machine on - that would surely be needed later.
They settled in the living-room, on the couch, and both remained silent. Subaru was looking thoughtful and tired, and Shingo wondered what the hell happened. He knew the man for nearly three decades now, as they grew up in the same street, but he rarely saw him in this state. And the fact that it was surely linked to Ryuhei wasn’t helping his brain to understand anything - Maru wasn’t the kind of guy to-
“Do you think he really loves me?” Subaru asked suddenly, making Shingo jump in surprise.
“Are you talking about Maru?” A nod, and Shingo growled. “Of course he does. It’s Maru we’re talking about. He almost worships you since the day you guys met.”
Subaru looked doubtful for a moment, then closed his eyes with a shaky sigh.
“Want to talk about it?” Shingo asked. His friend shook his head vehemently.
“I just... Want to forget about it for now. Can I sleep here?”
Standing up to grab some pillows and blankets, the taller man nodded. “Couch or futon?”
“Couch.”
Minutes later, when Subaru was settled and starting to fall asleep, Shingo went into his own bedroom and grabbed his cellphone, knowing that something had to be done.
One signal, two signals, and a sleepy voice.
“D’you know what the fucking time it fucking is?”
“Yes I know, but I also just rescued a depressed Subaru from my doorstep.”
“Seriously?” Kimitaka suddenly sounded far more awake than a few seconds before. “What the hell happened anyway? Did he find Maru?”
“He didn’t tell me. But if he did find him, things surely went bad. If you could see his face... It’s so obvious that he cried.”
“Subaru?” Kimi sputtered, puzzled; “Subaru cried? Are you sure?”
“I told you, something went wrong...”
They both remained silent for a moment, then the older one growled.
“Okay, we’ll see that tomorrow. For now, sleep.”

Ryuhei didn’t know what to do. He had spent a big part of the previous hours trying to call Subaru, but his boyfriend had turned his cellphone off. Not to talk about Kyohei, who was clinging to him like a baby, using every opportunity to kiss him, touch him, do all sorts of things he shouldn’t even think about. Ryuhei let him do as he wished, feeling a bit guilty that his twin was thinking that he didn’t love him anymore. If that overuse of affection could help things, then… Ryu was willing to endure it.
And it would be lying to say that he wasn’t enjoying it at all; a part of him - a very twisted part, he kept on telling himself - was glad about how Kyohei was acting. It felt good to be held, kissed passionately, caressed in places only Subaru would have caressed him before; but it also felt wrong. So wrong.
“Stop it” he whined, “I need to go take a shower.”
Kyohei frowned, currently busy kissing down Ryuhei’s chest. “It’s only 7, you can stay in bed some more you know…”
“I need to shower Kyo-chan.”
His twin looked up, glaring. “What does it mean?”
“I’m sticky with sweat” - and other stuff, but he didn’t want to think about it - “I just want to wash up, then I’ll be back.”
Reluctantly, Kyohei let him slip away from the bed. Ryuhei smiled weakly before disappearing in the bathroom, making sure that he could lock the door and effectively doing so. He wasted no time going under the water, sighing in relief as his muscles relaxed under the warm feeling. Closing his eyes, he let his forehead fall against the cold tiles of the shower, trying to push away the uneasy feelings.
“What the hell am I doing?” he whispered to the empty room, feeling on the verge of crying.
He had no clue on how things went this insane. And, to top it all, Subaru saw them, Subaru knew. He was surely feeling betrayed, and Ryuhei couldn’t blame him for it. He knew he had messed up, but what else could he have done? Saying ‘no’ to Kyohei was impossible; the man was strong and authoritative, and Ryuhei always was impressed by his twin. And he couldn’t have asked for help, in any way. He was stuck, and now his brother thought that Subaru was out of the equation and that he could keep Ryu to himself only.
Things were going bad. There was no way he could get out of this without troubles.
Softly, he started to cry. He wanted Subaru, he wanted the world how it was before, not this.
He could still feel his own twin’s hands on his skin, his lips against his own, his length inside of him. It was making him kind of nauseated. Grabbing the soap, he tried to make the feelings go, but no amount of washing could push it away.
Maybe Kyohei was right in the end. Maybe it was how things should be.
There was no way Subaru would come back anyway, not with what he witnessed. Now, Ryuhei just had to get used to it. Maybe things would be better then.
Turning the water off, he sadly walked back to the bedroom, and curled into his brother’s arms, letting him possess his body again. Maybe, if he closed his eyes and believed in it strong enough, he’d see Subaru’s face.

Shota sighed and put the bottle of whiskey back down.
“You shouldn’t drink so early you know…”
Subaru glared before downing the shot in one time. Next to him, Shingo cringed before turning his attention to Ryo. “So, Maru didn’t show up?”
Ryo shook his head, looking worried. “No, he didn’t. I tried to call him but I always end up on the voicemail.”
Kimitaka, sitting on a stool at Subaru’s other side, looked at the ceiling thoughtfully.
“We should go look for him.”
“No”, Subaru said. Shingo rubbed his friend’s shoulder in a reassuring way, and Subaru relaxed a bit before letting his head fall on the counter. “We don’t have to go look for him”, he said softly. “Someone’s taking care of him. It’ll be okay.”
“Who are you talking about?” Shota asked petulantly.
Subaru didn’t reply, just closed his eyes, wishing for the images to go away. The other shared a glance, and Shingo stood up. “I’m going to take a smoke, I’ll be back later.”
He got out, taking his jacket with him, and went straight to Ryuhei’s place.

In the end, Kyohei had to go in town for some businesses, so Ryuhei was freed from his brother’s apartment. He got back to his own, not wanting to show up at the bar; he knew that the others would be here too, and he wasn’t ready to face them, would they know anything or not. Most of all, he wasn’t ready to face Subaru yet. He knew he had to talk to him, but he was feeling too numb to do so.
Once home, he just settled on the couch and stayed there for the following hour, looking at the blank screen of the television, his mind empty. He was feeling exhausted, physically and mentally, but sleep didn’t want to come to him. So he just stared ahead, trying to put his brain to rest, and he was successful - kind of - until the moment someone knocked on his door.
He wasn’t expecting Shingo to show up at this hour of the day, but he couldn’t really snap the door back in his face.
“So, what’s up?” the older one casually asked while stepping inside. “Shota was worried not to see you coming back yesterday. And even more when you didn’t show up today.”
Frowning, Ryuhei closed the door. “Did Subaru… Did he say anything?”
“About?”
He waved it off, not knowing if he was relieved or saddened. “Nothing. Want some coffee?”
Shingo politely refused, his eyes locking on Ryuhei. “So. Why didn’t you come back? Something happened?”
“No, I was just tired…”
His friend smirked, hands on his hips. “And you think I will believe that?”
“But…”
“You should know me better than that Maru. I know you, and I know when you lie.”
The boy looked down, feeling trapped. He should have guessed that Shingo would want to know everything; because, even if Subaru didn’t say anything, it was still unusual for Ryuhei to act like this. And, if Subaru talked…
“Maru… What’s goin’ on? You’re both acting weird.”
Ryuhei whined, hiding his face in his hands. This was all going to be complicated, so complicated…
“I don’t know what to do”, he breathed out. “Will you help me?”
“Of course I will”, the older one said, coming closer to his friend and hugging him. “You know you can tell me everything. I’ll try my best to help you.”
Ryuhei sighed. “Okay.” After all, who better that Shingo could understand this mess?
“Okay. Let’s sit.”

Subaru growled as he was making his way up the stairs leading to his flat. Ryo and Kimitaka kicked him out of the bar - “No drinking in the afternoon! Go rest!” - and now he had to stay home, at least for the next few hours. Maybe he would be able to take a nap in the end.
Though this idea was quickly set away when he stepped into the corridor, finding someone standing there, back against the door, making his heartbeat double in speed.
“Maru-chan?”
The man smiled.
“Take a guess.”
Subaru stiffened. No, it wasn’t Maru. His boyfriend wouldn’t talk this way.
“Kyohei” he hissed, feeling the need to punch the guy. “What the hell are you doing here?”
“I thought we needed to talk”, the other one said calmly. “And you still came into my place without warning this night. I kind of hoped you would apologize.”
“Apologize?”
Subaru closed the distance quickly, his fists grabbing at Kyohei’s collar.
“I have nothing to apologize for, you freak!”
“Ryu-chan surely will be sad to know that you consider him that way.”
Blinking, the older man took a step back. “What? This isn’t about-”
“He was willing as far as I know. Therefore, if I am a freak, he is one too. Now, before you throw at me some more deliciously dirty words, can we go inside and talk?”
Feeling confused, Subaru nodded. He didn’t want to think about Ryuhei as a freak - his lovely, pure Maru-chan wasn’t like that. And yet…
“Fine, but I reserve the right to kick you out.”
“Sounds fair enough.”
Subaru bit back a sigh and turned to open the door.

Ryuhei kept his eyes on the floor once he stopped talking. He didn’t dare look up at Shingo, afraid of what he could be told, of what he could see. He wouldn’t be surprised if Shingo ended up disgusted - he was, after all, disgusted with himself, so others had the right to feel that way too.
Silent tears began to flow, and his friend remained silent for a moment, before moving closer to him and taking him in his arms.
“It’s okay, you don’t have to cry. I get it. We’ll go talk to Subaru. I know it must be hard for you, but we have to talk to him.”
Soft fingers tried to push the teardrops away, but Ryuhei couldn’t help himself. He felt lost, the situation totally overwhelming him; he didn’t know what to do or say anymore, afraid that things would go even worse.
Thankfully, Shingo really seemed to understand. Still holding the younger man, he grabbed his phone and dialled Kimitaka’s number.
“Hey.”
“Where’s Subaru?”
“Gone home. Why?”
“We need to talk to him…”
“We? Are you with Maru?”
“Yeah, but I’ll explain later. See ya.”
Not paying attention to his best friend’s indignant rants, he hung up and turned to Ryuhei.
“Let’s go talk to him.”
***
Subaru didn’t see this happening, not at all. He would never have thought that Kyohei would crush him against the nearest wall once inside, claiming his lips, holding him tightly.
But what he didn’t expect at all, mostly, was that he kissed back.
He kept on telling himself that it was only because he missed his lover, because this man was exactly the same as Maru; but it didn’t stop him from feeling guilty as soon as the kiss ended.
“What the hell are you…”
“Ryuhei is mine, mine only”, Kyohei said, still far into Subaru’s personal space; “but you’re in the way. And he doesn’t want to forget about you.”
Subaru’s heart filled with hope at such words. Maru loved him. He still wanted him.
“I thought at first that I should push you away, definitely. But…”
Kyohei’s eyes shone dangerously, and Subaru found himself trying to back off, only to find the wall. The other man smirked and captured his lips again, rendering him breathless, while his hands found their way under his t-shirt, nails scraping at his chest.
“This is far more amusing…”
Subaru glared.
“What do you want?”
“The same thing you do. Ryuhei. But I guess you are in a rather good position, as you can have two of him. Don’t you think so?”
Oh, so it was what he meant? The older man understood where all of this was going, and he wasn’t sure he approved of this mess - but if that meant he could have Maru back, then maybe…
“You won’t try to stand between us okay? You will leave us alone?”
“I can’t promise this, but…” A finger ran along Subaru’s jaw, making him shiver; “I can at least pretend that I’m him if you want me to.”
“Asshole.”
Kyohei just chuckled before kissing him again. Subaru willed himself to push the man away, to stop this madness, now, but he was too tired and a bit tipsy - and after all, if Maru slept with his brother, he had the right to do so too. Maybe he would get why this happened, why he almost lost the one he loved. Kyohei was just a copy of Ryuhei after all, right? He didn’t have to feel guilty. He was doing it because he loved Ryuhei.
That’s what he told himself all along - when Kyohei stripped him, when he laid him on the bed, when he made him his. He cursed himself for liking it, knowing deep inside that he was making a huge mistake, that he was stepping into Kyohei’s trap, but the words flew away with every move of the man’s hips, with every one of his thrusts into Subaru’s body.
When he came, he cried out for Ryuhei. The only reply he got was the tired but obviously amused voice of Kyohei’s.
“You can call him as much as you want, I’m the only one here with you.”
“Shut up…”
Kyohei growled. “Don’t be stupid. Do you really think that I would be the one fucking with you if he really loved you?”
Subaru looked away, his heart hurting more than ever. He didn’t want to believe in such poisonous words, but it still made him ache inside.
“You’re just trying to mess with me.”
“You’re right, I do like to mess with your head. Ryu-chan doesn’t say it aloud, but his mind is so fucking full of you. I hate you so much.”
There was pain and sadness in the man’s voice, and Subaru faced him, confused. Who the hell was this guy in the end, evil and plotting a second then calm and nice the next one? He watched as Kyohei was looking at the ceiling, teeth gritted, fingers nervously clenching at the covers.
“I wish we could find a way” Subaru finally said, forcing himself to calm down. “You’re his twin and he loves you so much… Maybe not as much as you love him, but still. There’s no way I can take your place in his heart, but… I also think there’s no way you can take mine.”
Kyohei turned slowly, glaring, before sighing.
“I fucking hate you even more when you’re right.”
Subaru couldn’t help from grinning. “Are we calling it a truce then?”
A long silence filled the room, both men staring at each other. Finally, Kyohei growled.
“You know what’s terrible? I think I get why he’s so fond of you.”
“Oh really?”
Grabbing at Subaru’s wrists, the younger one pulled him on top of him, a strange look in his eyes. Subaru followed easily, wondering what the hell was going to happen now.
“I think I’d like you better with shorter hair though.”
“Maru-chan likes my hair the way they are.”
“How about you?”
“I like them like that too.”
Kyohei made a face. “You’re annoying, seriously.”
“Then what the hell are you doing here?”
Fingers ran into strands of hair, pulling him closer. “I’m getting laid with that damn hot guy who stole my brother.”
“So you think I’m hot?” Subaru whispered against Kyohei’s lips, his own hands starting to run on the guy’s torso. “That’s surprising coming from the guy who keeps on saying that he hates me.”
“I guess we Maruyamas all have a thing for sexy bastards like you.”
Subaru grinned and bent down to kiss him. Things weren’t so bad; he just wished it was the other twin he had in his arms.
