Jaebeom leaned tentatively against the wall. He was certain that he was going to get the same answer he had gotten for the past four days from Nichkhun. Yet, he still wanted to try his luck.

Nichkhun walked out of class, with Wooyoung trailing behind worriedly. The vampire had seemed to have a set of dark eye rings around his eyes these days. Nichkhun paused in his step and glared at Jaebeom, as Jaebeom said softly, “Please, Nichkhun sshi.”

Nichkhun hissed, “No. Not even if my life depended on it, Park Jaebeom.”

Jaebeom saw Wooyoung tug on Nichkhun’s jacket sleeve lightly, which Nichkhun pulled away from almost immediately.

Jaebeom had been right. Nichkhun had given him the same answer he had been giving for the past four days. The younger vampire seemed downright annoyed at him, and Jaebeom knew it was indeed his own fault. As he watched Nichkhun turn and walk off, Jaebeom yelled, “I’ll be at the forest that we first became friends, waiting for him every day. And I’ll stay there until he comes.”

Nichkhun paused and turned around, causing Jaebeom to have a sudden glimmer of hope. Yet, the vampire just answered, more coldly than he had to Jaebeom’s pleads, “All the more I’ll make sure he doesn’t go there and see you. I have people at my house with a higher authority than him, and I’ll make sure they help me stop him.”

Jaebeom felt his heart sink, deeper than it had for the past few days, as he watched Nichkhun walk off, without turning back, and his dongsaeng following helplessly behind.

Nichkhun could hear the light footsteps of the faerie behind him. Much as he liked Wooyoung, he really wanted to be alone right now. Just having Wooyoung near him, reminded him of Jaebeom and his hatred towards the older faerie. But he had promised Wooyoung that the conflict between their hyungs was not going to affect their relationship, and he for one did not break promises.

Wooyoung broke into a light sprint and tugged on to Nichkhun’s sleeve, pulling the vampire to a halt. He whispered, “Calm down, Khun.”

And Nichkhun let Wooyoung pull him down, so their lips touched gently, just like how they always had. At that moment, Nichkhun felt all his anger dissipate as he held on lightly to Wooyoung.

As Nichkhun pulled away, Wooyoung asked quietly, “Is it… really impossible to let them meet?”

Nichkhun felt the anger he felt a moment ago reappear and he hissed, “Do you know what you’re asking, Wooyoung? You said that we shouldn’t let this interfere in our relationship, yet what are you doing now, Wooyoung? I’m sure it’s real sweet to have such a request right after we kiss.”

The faerie looked up at him and whispered, “But… Jaebeom hyung is upset, and it breaks my heart to see him like this.”

Nichkhun felt anger rise in his throat, about to explode out. He constrained his anger; Wooyoung should not be the target of it. He answered, trying to control his voice which was now shaking with anger, “He’s upset, Wooyoung? What about Junsu hyung? You think he isn’t upset? You think he isn’t torn apart by all this? He’s more heartbroken than Jaebeom! Jaebeom forgot everything he said and just walked off to kiss a random crap, right in front of Junsu hyung’s eyes.”

Wooyoung took a step back, clearly afraid of the vampire, who was now slightly crazed with anger at his words. Nichkhun continued, his constraint for his anger dissolving, “Do you think you’re the only one upset seeing your hyung like this? Do you know how my heart constricts every night, when I see Junsu hyung sitting out at the balcony alone, as he’s afraid to close his eyes, because he sees the image of Taecyeon and Jaebeom kissing every time he closes his eyes? Do you know how much my heart shatters every time SuA clings on to Junsu hyung, and I remember that my hyung is being forced into a marriage with her, yet the person he truly loves doesn’t understand that? Do you know that my heart feels like it’s being stabbed over and over again whenever Junsu hyung wakes up from a nightmare of Jaebeom, crying and hugging on to us, screaming that he doesn’t want to sleep anymore? Do you know the one thing that kills me the most is seeing that he refuses to eat anything except blood tablets? Which is the one thing he hates eating the most!”

Nichkhun watched the stunned expression on the faerie’s face. He was aware that he was screaming and crying all at the same time, yet it felt so good to let it all out. Nichkhun had been bottling up his pain for the past few days, as he watched the way his hyung trap himself in his room the whole day, all the while his heart was shattering into a million pieces.

Nichkhun lowered his voice and whispered, tears still streaming down his face from the pain his heart was feeling, “I grew up with him, Wooyoung, and in the 22 years I’ve known him, I’ve never seen him so upset before. My heart breaks seeing him like this, Wooyoung. So please don’t ask for favours, if you don’t understand anything.”

Nichkhun was aware that he had made Wooyoung’s heart break, that he had made Wooyoung cry. But that was what happened when people from 2 different worlds dated. This was why he shouldn’t have started it in the first place, yet he had fallen to temptation. Nichkhun hardened his heart as he turned, and walked off, all the while Wooyoung’s sobs replayed over and over in his head, and tears trickled down his own face.

Taecyeon stared in worry at Jaebeom. The little guy had been acting weirdly ever since he had followed that stupid Junsu out of class that day. Jaebeom had been sitting in the forest for a really long time the past few days, claiming that he was sure Junsu would come and look for him.

Raindrops were falling, and Jaebeom looked up at the sky, but made no attempt to move. Taecyeon ran over, an umbrella in hand, and yelled, “Are you insane? He’s not going to come, Jaebeom! Go home, or you’ll fall sick, Jaebeom.”

Jaebeom stared up at him, tears streaming down his face, mixed with the raindrops which were falling down his face. He shook his head and cried, “You’re right, I’m insane. I know he’s not going to come, but I love him too much, Taecyeon. As long as there’s a glimmer of hope, I won’t leave.”

Taecyeon felt his heart break as he bent down to Jaebeom’s height, whispering, “Can’t you love me instead, Jaebeom?”

Jaebeom looked at Taecyeon, the answer already clearly reflected in his eyes. Yet, Taecyeon refused to succumb to his fate. He wanted to change it, make it different. He didn’t want to lose Jaebeom. Taecyeon leaned in towards Jaebeom, as the umbrella fell from his hand, he lightly brushed Jaebeom’s cold lips with his warm one.

Jaebeom made no attempt to pull away or kiss back. He just stayed still as Taecyeon held on to him, rain dripping on both of them. As he pulled away, he saw Jaebeom’s eyes widen, and he stood up.

Taecyeon followed him, and stood up while turning around. Nichkhun stood there, his hair dripping with rain, his clothes and bag thoroughly soaked. His hand was hanging limply by his side, and he was staring at them with an expressionless face. Jaebeom ran over to the pretty boy and before he could open his mouth to say anything, Nichkhun said, his voice low and emotionless, “Save it. For someone who cares and believes.”

Jaebeom shook his head and cried, “It’s not like that, Nichkhun sshi!”

Nichkhun pushed him away, and Taecyeon caught on to him as the little man fell backwards. The pretty boy’s eyes were filled with tears, or was it just raindrops streaming down his face? Taecyeon wondered to himself. Jaebeom hurriedly pulled himself away from Taecyeon’s grip, as Nichkhun whispered, his voice quavering, with what Taecyeon could only assume was anger, “I’m so glad I didn’t believe you and asked Junsu hyung to come here. Can you just stop toying with him, Jaebeom? You’ve already killed his heart, what more do you want from him?”

Taecyeon felt slightly annoyed at the pretty boy for throwing such insults at Jaebeom. Jaebeom was as upset as that stupid vampire, Junsu, probably was, if not worse. Jaebeom was the one sitting in the rain waiting for him, while Junsu was probably snuggled up in the warmth of his house. Taecyeon hissed, “And why do you care so much about Junsu? Do you crush him or something?”

Nichkhun’s eyes flashed with anger as he gripped Taecyeon by the collar, and to Taecyeon’s surprise, the pretty boy lifted him off his feet, hissing, “Screw you. He is my hyung. And if you dare to do anything to him, I will not let you off.”

Nichkhun slammed Taecyeon onto the ground and turned to walk off. Realization suddenly seeped into Taecyeon. He suddenly knew why the boy was so pretty, why he hated his guts, and why he had been able to lift him up moments ago. This was the other vampire that he had been looking for and Nichkhun probably already knew he was a troll.

Jaebeom seemed oblivious to everything happening around them, and instead just sank to the ground, sobbing and whispering Junsu’s name again and again. Taecyeon felt his chest constrict, and his heart shatter. Why was it that the one person he loved was so deeply in love with the type of creatures he hated the most in his life?

Junsu stared at his surroundings. He was at home, or was he? It looked so similar, the Victorian style chandeliers, the winding staircases, the carpets, the sofas… everything. Yet, something felt so different. Junsu walked up the winding staircase slowly, with each step he took, he could hear moaning, sheer cries of what sounded like pleasure to him. It was coming from his room. Junsu hesitated, his slender fingers gripped the doorknob, without turning it. He was afraid to see what was on the other side, what was making that noise. As he turned the knob, he saw, lying on his bed, were the entwined bodies of Jaebeom and Taecyeon.

Junsu’s head began pounding, as the pair lying on his bed, continued with what they were doing, oblivious to his presence. He felt his chest constricting, and that it was difficult to breathe, and for what seemed like the hundredth time that week, Junsu felt like dying. As he heard the loud moans coming from Jaebeom, the smirks from Taecyeon, and imagined Jaebeom’s lips pressed against Taecyeon’s, not his, and Jaebeom’s hands pressed against the troll’s body, not his. And suddenly, Junsu felt any reasons he had to live were not worth it to witness such a scene, and he wished someone would just kill him immediately.

“Junsu, Junsu! Su ah, don’t scare me!”

Junsu’s eyes flew open and he was face to face with the man he had met in the forest a few days ago. His name was Lee Joon.

Lee Joon had been his childhood friend, and they were really close. However, he hadn’t seen the pretty boy since they were being forced apart, as they each discovered their identities. Junsu discovered he was a vampire, and Lee Joon discovered he was one of the rare beings with the ability to control water. In simpler terms, Lee Joon was a water traveler, and currently he was the second most powerful type of traveler, losing only to JoKwon, the fire traveler.

Joon was peering at him with a worried look. Behind him, stood another good looking boy, who was also staring at him in concern. That boy had light brown hair, which was tied up cutely in a tiny ponytail. He had bright, big brown eyes, and had grown up together with them as well. He was Mir, another water traveler, and Joon’s boyfriend.

Joon whispered, “You were screaming, Su. The same phrase you’ve been screaming for the past few days, ‘Just kill me. I have no reason to live and see all this.’ What exactly are you keeping from Mir and I?”

Junsu sat up in his bed and stared at the clock next to his bed, which showed 1:59PM. He had only slept for less than an hour. Sweat was dripping from his forehead and his eyes were wet. Junsu had been having the same dream for the past few days… ever since that incident. He answered softly, “I miss him, Joon. No matter how hard I try, I can’t erase him from my mind. But the only images I can see of him now, are all his betrayal to me, Joon.”

Joon sighed, reached out and wiped away the tears that were now trickling down Junsu’s face, as he answered, “Forget him, Su. If he only brings tears, then forget about him.”

Junsu looked down and remained silent. Water travelers had the ability to sense the emotions of those they cared about, and Joon had come specially to see him, as he had sensed strong signs of depression from him.

Junsu perked up slightly as he heard the front door swing shut, signaling that Nichkhun was home. Seeing his dongsaeng was one of the few things that provided him with a reason to live nowadays. It always made him happy to see Nichkhun’s life on track, and not screwed up like his.

Nichkhun stopped by Junsu’s bedroom door, and Junsu felt his heart die just a bit more, as he watched water drip down from Nichkhun. Mir immediately rushed over and asked, “Why are you so wet, Khun? Didn’t you bring an umbrella? Get a towel and dry up, or you’ll catch a cold.”

Nichkhun glanced at Mir, his eyes glistening with what Junsu was extremely sure were tears, and not the raindrops. Nichkhun pushed Mir away slightly and sank to the ground, as the water travelers and Junsu watched helplessly.

Junsu mustered up his strength and climbed out of bed. He stumbled slightly and Joon caught on to him. He barely had strength nowadays, as he had no appetite and barely got any sleep. He smiled slightly at Joon and made his way over to Nichkhun. The older vampire bent down slightly, as he saw a puddle of water on his bed room floor, a mixture of rainwater and Nichkhun’s tears. He whispered, “What’s wrong, Khun? Tell hyung.”

Nichkhun looked up at Junsu, his face streaked with tears, as he hugged on tightly to Junsu, his wet body pressed tightly against Junsu’s warm one. Nichkhun whispered, “I understand now, hyung. How it feels like for a heart to break.”

And the part of Junsu’s heart that was still beating, just died.
