Big bat in the city

Sep 24, 2008 21:06

I had to babysit a bat that was flopping around on the sidewalk outside of a Brooklyn train station. It was on its back squeaking, so a box was put over it and animal control was called.

It was about an hour before the van came to pick it up. 'Big,' was the statement given by the handler. I guess an 8-inch wingspan is big.

It was a good thing I kept away the schoolkids who were standing by watching; the bat had rabies. Department of Health called me five times to pinpoint when the bat landed on the sidewalk and tried to find out who may have come in contact with it.

I hope no dog got nipped on its walk.
