Tribute to Beksinski

Here's a short slideshow I just did featuring a selection of paintings by my favorite artist Zdzislaw Beksinski. I have always admired him greatly for his amazing skill and bizarre imagination, and identified with him because he was always most concerned with the image and the feelings it evoked, not about any deep meaning. His paintings seem to portray some kind of post-apocalyptic future full of ruined buildings and twisted bodies, and yet the buildings and creatures seem somehow alive and organic in their altered states. Despite the strangeness of the image, it's easy to look at one painting and make up a whole story to go along with it.

Beksinski was murdered in 2005 by the son of a friend. His own son had committed suicide five years before. He had also lost his wife before that. His last years were very hard, and I wish so much that he'd had better. Everyone who knew him described him as friendly, humble and a very good person. He is very missed.
