Have I mentioned recently how much I loathe the vast majority of disability-awareness events?

Wow! A whole fucking day! What a hero! When are ABs going to learn how completely offensive and ineffectual are these "spend-a-day/week/minute in a wheelchair" events? all they do is reinforce pre-existing stereotypes about wheelchairs being a "prison" or whatever, or they do the opposite - "hey, this ain't that bad, dunno what you gimps are complaining about!", etc... if you want to know what it is like to use a wheelchair, and more importantly how YOU can use your AB-privilege to make wheelchairs something that doesn't NEED awareness-raising, how about ASKING and LISTENING those who use them?
