*whew* I wish things would slow down a bit, I am so exhausted lately.
Attended the
End Exclusion event yesterday [btw, PLEASE PLEASE everyone sign the declaration - normally I view most online petitions as ineffectual, but given the number of media and political ppl in attendance at the event, I think this one might have some weight].
It was a looooong day, basically one speech after another with a break for lunch. Like most, I am "cautiously optimistic" about the whole proposal behind a National Disability Act. The things discussed were things that have been discussed for years, but with no political will behind them, nothing will move forward.
Jack Layton, Paul Dewar and Stephen Fletcher were at the reception afterwards (how convenient they were present only for the part of the day that would give them the most media attention!) I talked to a few ppl at the reception, but it's uncomfortable (physically and socially) when you are lower than most of the other ppl (who are standing), and mingling about was difficult when, even at an event like this, ppl still aren't aware there are wheelchairs/scooters/walkers around (and there were a lot!), so it got frustrating after a while.
Hallowe'en pics soon!
