God, I am just now discovering a deeply buried love for classic movies that I never knew I had. I used to think they were so dull and paced so slow, but the more I watch the Turner Classic Movie channel, the more I realize that all of these actors have so much more charisma and integrity than most actors nowadays. And on top of that, the dialogue--oh, the dialogue! Everything seems so much more deliberate, and every sentence has a POINT to the PLOT. The wit!

Today, it's a race in Hollywood to crank out as many movies as they possibly can; throw in fluff dialogue, gratifying violence and/or nudity, a few special effects and unrealistically stunning faces that can't act worth a dime, and you've got yourself a franchise. (Talk about how to steal a million! *ohsnap*)

Not to say there aren't some exceedingly dull, slow-paced old black&white and technicolor movies, and not to say that all movies today royally suck. No. I'm just saying, don't write off anything considered a classic; chances are, they're "classics" for a reason, y'know? Decide for yourself. (Weirdly enough, I never had this problem with literature--never doubt a classics list!)
