i know i suck at updating this, and i feel like i should do it more often.  usually every time i think of some stuff to write i look at it and go "i wouldn't want to read this myself, why am i subjecting others to it?"

anyway, in an effort to at least keep an update on what is going on in my life (in general) i figure i should update.

i guess the last time i left off, i absolutely hated my job.  the main source for my hate was 1 person that i had a dotted line to that would both a) sabotage any efforts i made to be creative or take on more responsibility and would simultaneously b) dump a bunch of crap that he didn't want to do on me and then present it to our boss as his own work.

needless to say, as i am mainly a "circle" (we learned about some silly stuff called psychogeometrics in our diversity lunch & learn yesterday), i wasn't getting the praise for all of the extra hours i was putting in, all of the ideas that were mine and not this co-workers', the list goes on and on - and this made me a very unhappy employee.

thankfully, this coworker got a job @ the company we're all contracted out to and changed jobs a bit.  at the same time, i also go moved down to the facilities group where i get to sit beside Karla and report to a manager that is truely fantastic.  i'm now running my own projects, creating my own schedules (of course doing all of the design and paperwork too still, but that hasn't changed).  it's great!

so work is great, home life is always great (because D is the best husband ever), and i've been seeing alot more of my family recently.

my sister's 25th bday was on March 20th so we (Derek, my parents, and myself) went up to Reston, VA to celebrate with her and her boyfriend.

then, last weekend, D and drove down to Concord to ride with my parents to Pinehurst, GA (read 6 hrs in the back seat of a Ford Explorer that my Mom used to smoke in & it still smells like smoke).  i was suprised, but we actually had a nice time and the trips didn't seem NEARLY as long as they used to when i was a kid.  probably because i was able to get my Dad to to talk about all types of topics.  all you have to do is ask 1 question and he'll talk for at least 30 minutes on any subject (those of you that have met him know what i'm talking about).  it was alot of fun to mess with him!  we went to Pinehurst to see my Mom's dad (Grandad Hancock) in the nursing home @ Perry, GA.  it was nice to see him (for the 1 full day we were there) and to hang out with my sister that night (she flew into Atlanta on Sat).

also...the first weekend of May D and i are going to New Orleans for the Jazz Festival.  i'm very excited to see Diana Krall (one of my favorites) and i've never had the chance to see her in concert before.  we'll be going up on thurs & returning on monday.  it should be fantastic!  i'll try to remember to post about it.  :)

so i've been traveling alot more than usual and i've been working closer to 10 hour days (usually a bunch of 9 hour days with the random 12 hour stuck in there).  it's been good and fun and TIRING.

oh yeah!  i'm also slowly getting into vegetarianism.  it's been great so far - i feel better and have more energy.  i haven't started back up working out other than the occassional hike or outting to play disk golf with D, but that's the next thing i want to work on.  i'd like to get my excercise routine up to a higher level so that maybe we could get a puppy within the next year or so (i want one sooooooooo badly).

:-D

that's my life's story thus far.  i hope you didn't get too bored.  ;-)
