stardust_rain's post of yesterday got me thinking, because both arguments that seem to be dominating discussions-"LJ wants fandom gone" vs. "LJ is in heap-big financial trouble"-both seem to have their flaws. If LJ wants fandom gone, why not just yank on the copyright violation angle, which is much more plausible than ZOMGCHILDPORN!? If LJ is in heap-big ( Read more... )

Sir, this is just my opinion, but I believe the goal of your company is to make money. That much is obvious in any business. I don't believe your company has a grand scheme for world domination, but I cannot shake the feeling I get that something is serious wrong with the direction the company is taking and it scares me.

If everything that has happened is just a series of missteps, why is it continually happening. Your content definitions are getting broader and broader beyond the letters of the law as fandom tries to behave and keeps finding ways for us to stay without compromising our creative freedom.

The impression I keep getting is that 6A doesn't understand this part of the userbase or even want to. Your company may say it does, but the actions being taken and not taken tells me is ashamed of the seedier side of fandom, or even sexual content in general. Where will it end except in the banning of all adult content?

I am not a fan artist, but my friends and readers are and have drawn for my stories. Because I inspired them, they could potentially lose their journal by your new policy. If the definitions broaden more to text, I could lose mine if reported for writing about teens having sex. I have never been ashamed of my writings until it's been thrust into public light as being indecent, possibly pedophila, but now I feel the tinge of it.

If this is truly the responsibly your company wants, it is their right. If they wish to open this can of worms to possible abuse by people with agendas/vendettas against fandom, as the now four cases on Pornish Pixies seem to point towards, so be it. I only wish they would realize the mistake they're making that people are seeing but the management isn't.

Ditto to all of the above. In case Anildash checks back to read comments, I'll just say more explicitly that this "illegal or that was out of line with LJ policy" thing is what many of us are concerned about. First it was illegal material. Then when that didn't actually justify the bannings, it was expanded to this vague "against LJ policy" talking point. Basically, we still don't know what in the world you mean and it's incredibly frustrating.
