stardust_rain's post of yesterday got me thinking, because both arguments that seem to be dominating discussions-"LJ wants fandom gone" vs. "LJ is in heap-big financial trouble"-both seem to have their flaws. As someone who isn't in fandom either I find one flaw in your theory which begins with your incomplete explanation of Occam's Razor:

"entities should not be multiplied beyond necessity."

Necessity is the key word you're missing. I can create simple explanations that fail because they don't address all the necessary data.

If "Whether you look at the suspensions earlier this year, or the policy clarifications more recently (and taking into account that I'll grant they could both have been better handled), the goal was to make sure we weren't hosting content that's illegal or that was out of line with LJ policy." is true and the complete answer explain the refusal to remove pro-Anorixa support communities being okay because they don't encourage causing harm. Similar groups have been raised by fandom.

If the answer really is what your suggesting you need to explain why fandom much more than other activities that to me, as someone who isn't in fandom, isn't a teenager, is a conservative (and was a Republican), and whose oldest account (username Harmast) is an early adopter why fandom violates the terms of service and the ana communities don't (even after being brought up).

I know which one would concern me more concerning a daughter, sister, or niece.
