California State Attorney General

Aug 11, 2007 18:27

I got a letter (real letter, not a form letter!) from the Attorney General's office. They stated that they had received a number of complaints, and that they were contacting Six Apart to try and act as a liason between the unhappy consumers and the company. He did say that he would be contacting me, should Six Apart fail to respond, and that they may need me to provide further information "for legal action against this company by our office on behalf of the consumers".

I feel so much better, getting this letter. And I have a friend who works closely with the AG's office, and she said they got SLAMMED with emails and calls. Whoot!

They said that their primary goal was to foster a resolution between the consumers and the company, but if LJ/6A failed to act in good faith or respond, that they would use legal remedies to protect the consumers.

Wonder what Jerry Brown will think of the sites LJ lets stay up? This could get interesting....

EDITED TO ADD AND CORRECT: I made some statements, based on long told stories I had heard from what I thought were reliable sources, regarding the community Fandom Wank and it's adversarial relationship with LJ and it's founder. It has been pointed out to me (numerous times) that these are errors in fact and opinion. The Fandom Wank wiki page was down for repairs due to server issues, and is now up, so that anyone curious can go check it out and see their version of the events and their history of their group. I am not a member of FW (because I don't belong to Journal Fen, not because I don't think they are very funny at times, because I do). I made a mistake, and I apologize and own it. Mea culpa. Fifty lashes with a mouse cord.

EDITED TO ADD, PART DEUX:

Someone asked me to post the link to the post I did earlier in the week where I suggested possible remedies and the links to them, and asked what people thought.

The responses...well...you can see.

I'm turning off notifs on this post, because I've been dealing with this all day. I've tried to be open to even the most abusive criticism, and tried to respond to nearly everyone. But I think it's just getting into repeats, and wank, and that's not going to help anyone. I will repeat a couple of things:

I am not the only person who filed a complaint, and the complaint I posted had nothing to do with fandom, it was regarding customer service and failure to clarify and state clear policies on content. I am more than happy to withdraw the complaint, as soon as LJ responds to my email, fax, letter or questions. It's not that hard. I do not now, nor have I ever, represented fandom. I represent my own concerns and interests, with a concern about the marginalizing of fandom in LJ. Last, if I'm wrong, I'll say I'm wrong. But I do not feel wrong in expecting LJ to live up to their written promises, and to respond to a customer complaint. They take my money quickly enough.

Now, I'm turning off notifs and will not be responding here any longer. If you have a concern or question or comment, you can politely do so in my journal. Note the word politely. I have no intention of being attacked in my personal journal, nor would I do that in yours.

Thank you to everyone who repped, and I mean that. It might have been better a week ago, but hindsight is always 20/20, isn't it?
