excerpt from a local LJ:
So in Healing Racism today, we (the class against Jenn, Jimmy, and I) talked about the New Orleans problem. It was not our government's fault, it was LA govenor's fault. YES! Her, Not Bush. It is proven that the governor of Louisiana did NOT prepare for Katrina therefore causing all sorts of problems for the poverty-stricken people. And This isn't a race issue at all! It's a poverty issue. People of America are very ignorant of the poor. They tend to ignore them completely, unless they themselves are poor. Stupid idiots like Kayne West make dumb ass comments like ,"Bush is racist against blacks. Our government is racist against blacks." etc, well, if that is true, should he also be saying, "the hurricanes are racist." as well???
Exactly.
Stupid people make stupid remarks.
My Response:
the problem is that both the national and state government weren't prepared. there are parts where both failed to help. do NOT solely blaim the louisiana government. no it is not about racism but it about economic ability. b/c if it was a rich city then there would be sooner response, it just so happens that the poor in the New Orleans community is majorily black. the question is now what are you going to do about it now? i am really frustrated on this topic and personally i believe that it is the fault of both the local/state/national government. Bush himself said today that he takes responsibility for what has happened b/c in reality the national response came extremely to late. even if the state government does not come out in the end, the national government has the power to control the situation. i am personally infuriated by this topic b/c people are setting out sooo much blaim on specifically one person (yes, you are doing the ignorant blaim factor to). the deal now is what is going to be the plan for the future for every other state b/c we are seeing now that the majority of major cities are not prepared for a major disaster like katrina. so stop playing the blaim game and do something.
also on your thing about race...the statement that Kayne West has made about our government being racist...is true. no matter how small the racism there is, it is still racism. but if you want to go another route, our government is not racist yet they relie on stereotypes. these stereotypes hinder the black community into fully developing its potential. talk about that tommorrow in class. have you ever seen the face of someone who is amazed that you have said something intelligent b/c from looking at your skin tone and relating to the stereotype of your race? talk to me then about "hurricanes being racist"...bullshit rampage...once you can argue legitimately with actual experience then go on a rant.
