So, spent the week down at mum's in Port Elliot waiting for my car to get fixed. Well I suppoe that was always technically "looked at"
I/We suspected that maybe the clutch and/or gearbox were going, although the initial alarming problem had kinda settled down. Based on the "symptoms" the mechanic said it might have been the gearbox too.
Well it turns out my baby is dying....worn drive-shafts, worn gear brushes, gasket, radiator cracked with leaking top and botton reservoirs (that I knew because I could see green coolant drops from pinholes near the fill-hole) - He basically just gave it a service and told me to drive it until it dies.
But surprisingly I'm not actually upset. I'm kinda happy because it means I'll be the one to see the old girl off. I'm only worried that she might die along the chain of ponds road part way through vintage - which would be bad :S
So today has thus far been spent in the preparation for vintage;
- went down the Grand Junction Road and bought new boots - a half-size too big, but okay;
- finally emptied my car of the things for charity...except the blankie which I thought might be useful to curl up in if she does die and need towing - waiting for RAA/Towing can take awhiile;
- and lastly came home, counted up all my pre-prepped frozen meals, defrosted some sausage meat to make mum's patented sausage rolls, and planned a list of ingredients to make up another couple of batches of things
Also trying to decide if I want to consider that $3200 '04 model Barina I saw in Victor.....my main worry being that's it's very cheap, even taking into account that it's done 4/5ths the k's mine has......but then it's a good 18 years younger than mine and not rusty, so one could spend money on repairs and still have a good unit.
Ahh! Buying cars is a confusing business!
