Catching up

Hi everybody!

I just wanted to put up a quick post about why I haven't been around much for the last week and why I won't be around for another month. Nothing bad - well, I have gotten some upsetting personal news, but it's got nothing to do with that. It's just work. We've got a huge project at work that's due at the end of November, and until then it will be 7 days a week, 14+-hour days - that's how it was last November (before any of y'all knew me). I've freed myself up this weekend by doing a shitload of work yesterday and not really telling anyone just how much I'd gotten done, so as far as they know, I'm working diligently all weekend.

My real weekend plans: (1) hand-wash my bras, (2) do my dishes, (3) file away every last bit of paper in my apartment, (4) catch up on my flist, (5) respond to the lovely comments I've gotten recently, (6) finish and post this crackfic I got halfway through before the project of doom at work started, and (7) possibly write and post more Ben and Dean. And (8) rewatch S1 of Arrested Development.

Also, I'm insanely jealous of everyone who's doing NaNo. Ever since I first heard about it a few years ago, it's sounded like something I'd want to try. Unfortunately, this work schedule means November is the absolute worst time for me to attempt to write anything so big. So I think in December or January (more likely January) I'm going to try to do my own, smaller version of NaNo. I'll set myself a goal of 500 or 1000 words a day and just WRITE. I think it'll be an interesting exercise for me - as my long-suffering betas could tell you (and possibly will if you buy them enough drinks), I have a problem letting go of what I've written, and I don't like to write scene 2 until I'm satisfied with scene 1. I'll go back and review and do quick rewrites of things once I'm done, but I do most of my rewriting in the moment. Anyway, I came up with an idea for a long and plotty Supernatural story that I think would lend itself well to this writing style. The other long story I've got in the works (of which I've written one whole paragraph) is much more about emotion and characterization than plot, and I would never try to write it like this. But the plotty story should work. So I'll make a proper post about that later as November draws to a close, and then we can figure out who'd want to read the daily chunks, if I need to create a filter, if I should disable comments (a function I'm testing out with this post), etc.

Anyway. So coming up there's a crackfic, a Sam/OFC story for the (December?) Sam pornathon, more Ben and Dean, the long story about the boys as children, and then maybe this NaNo-ish plotty story. That sounds like plenty, right?
