Hi, everybody!

I know I owe a million things to a million people, but let's put all of that aside just for a moment, shall we? Let's talk about some (unconventional) leading men instead.

First, like everyone who enjoys smart, interesting, adorable TV shows that are female-centric and have a primarily non-white cast, I'm watching Jane the Virgin.

Wow, that is a lot to be shaking all at once! Daughter sounds marvelously energetic and motivated, which is nice to admire (given that I don't have to drive her anywhere). Are the administrative responsibilities at work at least in service to something you believe in?

This political situation is basically a pressure-cooker, and it's taking so much energy just to go about daily life. Like you, I'm not directly worried about myself - yes, I'm a brown-skinned woman, but I'm financially okay and have no literal dependents - but it's exhausting just thinking of all the things that can go wrong. My dad, for example, is planning to fly to India in a few months to help take care of his elderly mother, and though he became a US citizen in 2008, I'm worried because I just read about an American-born Indian man who was detained and not allowed back into the US until he unlocked his phone (which he was refusing to do not only because no one has the right to compel him to do that, and also because he works for NASA's JPL and he had sensitive info on his phone). So who knows? We must protest and keep changing what we can!

I guess Daughter is "marvelously energetic and motivated," but we see her lounging around the house and dodging chores so much that I forget!

Yes, I'm working on the undergraduate program for our department. It sometimes burns when I have to deal with things outside the department because-well, don't get me started, but I don't think some people in higher admin remember any longer what classrooms are really like. Fortunately, there are at least a few who do. I'm also very blessed in my colleagues and my students.

I heard about the NASA engineer and about blew a gasket over it. This isn't even just paranoia; this is the gang that can't shoot straight. I hope your dad can fly there and back safely and without trouble.
