5 Things I Hate About Fics

So Bee's been doing the heavy lifting in the thinky thoughts posts lately, and I certainly don't have the flist she does to generate a ton of ideas. *waves to mini flist* This isn't actually thought provoking either, but as I am well and truly snowed in (and irrepressibly positive in nature), I thought I'd attempt to start a discussion about

It probably is too politically incorrect, but I was stuck in a blizard and catching up on SGA fic and it occured to me that there are certain things that drive me insane.:) Plus you're nicer than I am.

If it's very OOC, I don't even bother reading it. I have a high tolerance for it in AUs simply because circumstances change people (like I never make Kara deal with being the cause of Zak's death so it takes away a lot of that crippling guilt). And yeah - part of Lee's appeal is that he doesn't feel the need to be uber alpha all the time. He's very comfortable with his own abilities and isn't threatened by the strengths of other people. Kara as angst pants or constantly wise-cracking jerk annoys me too.:)

Baby, kid, same difference for me. I think that there are ways to do it well, but I'm just not interested in adding a kid to the dynamic.

No, I don't really like OCs with big roles either. I don't even find them tempting to play with. (Obviously. I'm shameless about recasting people as I see fit.:)) And I do like some long fics because I really enjoy good plot. However, if the entire long fic is Kara and Lee angsting with nothing else happening, I can't read it. And I never trust WIPs, even the ones I like. (I've been brned a couple times.:))

And totally agree on fic. I may be a jerk and post things I don't like, but I appreciate people writing for my entertainment and would never leave negative feedback abot a story.

I agree, but I guess my tolerance is not so high (that's why I find some AU tough sometimes). I love seeing different versions of my favorite characters, but I need to recognize them.

And I do like some long fics because I really enjoy good plot

I tend to associate long fics with WIPs... And don't get me wrong, I love long fic --when it is well written and doesn't get lost in superfluous plots and subplots. Maybe it's just me, but I find it difficult to find really really good long fic --but hey, they are probably the most difficult to write and I admire writers who are skilled enought to do that.

Heh. Not at all. I like this sort of posts. You are super polite, you write fic --so obviously, there is some self-criticism here--, and this is your journal :)
