In Savannah

Hi.

It's me. Mother of the cutest little barbarian since Atilla the Hun.

I'm in Savannah where I reunited with a very pregnant Rory and my ex-boyfriend Justin (in no particular relation). What a hodgepodge of history. And bytheway I'm an asshole because I was so bitchy and impatient with Justin when I first began this journal. He's a really sweet guy. Probably the last of the long line of nice guys I broke up with until I married Jesse. Justin is great with kids. They love to "rough house" with him. It was pretty cool to see him getting silly with Brosey. Then the fun came to a halt when Brosey accosted Jody's son, Talon, for like the 80th time with a plastic sword. Please God, don't let him be a bully like his dad was.

Rory's the same, but so much more relaxing because she's got a good man who loves her. That can put a nice tone on things. Even though she cried for days when she found out she was preggers, I know she'll make a great mom.

Finn's so grown up and laid back. Talon and Brosey have an interesting relationship. Talon's happy to play and share his toys, then Brosey mows down his Dungeons & Dragons figurines with a monster truck. What a little turd! Brosey laughs in the face of time outs and "big pops." After 2 days of this stuff, I see Brosey swinging a styrofoam water noodle near Talon (who is wearing his bike helmet). One bonk on the helmet and Talon is screaming a couple octaves above Mariah Carey. The kid is done. And Brosey's still wanting to sitrightnext to him on the couch even after Talon chomped him on the face. It's relentless. Not a very relaxing vacation. Jody did bring back some amazing Saigon Thai food today that I'm still thinking about. Which reminds me of the leftovers in the fridge...

Brosey and I did have one of our most amazing times on the beach tonight. We went out by the lighthouse on Tybee where the wind blows so strong past the rocks at the jetty. The water was warm and the tidepools alive with tumbling shells. We chased and splashed and leapt and laughed. And the dolphins!!! Awesome. There were about 8 froliking so close to shore. They played for the longest time as Brosey pointed delightedly saying "Duffin, Mama!" We saw their noses jumping out of the water and their playful tail slaps. Wheeee!

I saw Savannah Rachel, mayor of Sassyville, too. It's good to be around a bunch of other families where Mom's the main bread winner too. It makes me not feel like it's all that uncommon. But is it unnatural?

So what's up with the whole "being in love with the idea of (fill in the blank)" ? Does everyone do this? Or just frosted flakes like me? Inquiring minds want to know...
