VP Debates

Oct 03, 2008 08:58

Well, I caught most of the debate, although I have to admit most of it I just listened to over the noise of me making chocolate cake and tacos for dinner.
I was unimpressed all around.
Especially after reading the fact checks this morning.
Ugh.

Palin's performance was mostly good, but on a couple of the hard attacks from Biden, she sounded unsure and insecure before her response by her uhs and ums. Her voice was a little shaky which projected the very thing the left has been saying about her not being ready/good enough/experienced enough for VP. I was disappointed.
However, that being said, she was very powerful in some areas, and I loved when she said she wasn't going to lie or mislead the American people, that this is what she believed, and she wasn't going to pursue policy to force America to her beliefs, but she wasn't denying or misleading about her stance. I really liked that. I think that is what most candidates lack, including Romney who was my choice for the R candidate of the ones that were available before.

Of the two, I think Palin had better rapport, because even though she may have used some folksy terms, she came off as compassionate to the average person. Biden came off more abrasive and arrogant, if not downright pugnacious, like the schoolyard bully. He had the whole aura of the typical Washington person who misrepresents everything, even the people they're supposed to be there fighting for.

I had to laugh really hard though, when he blamed all climate change on humans. That is like Al Gore inventing the Internet. Geez, it jumped the shark so long ago.

It was also really stupid of him to keep saying McCain is just like Bush. Anyone with a brain knows that McCain is very far removed from Bush. His record shows that. That's part of the reason they had to get Palin on the ticket, because most conservatives believe he's too liberal, and they needed to bring in that staunch conservative person to solidify the voters.

I liked the way Palin wanted to focus more on what was going to be done than to argue about the causes and semantics of the topics. She did a good job defending her record, and McCain. Biden came off as too defensive when defending Obama. It sounded like "My Dad's bigger than your Dad" rhetoric. I also think it was a major gaffe when he assured everyone that he would be in every meeting Obama was, not as president, that's Obama, but as an adviser to give his opinion. Bzuah? It made Obama look extremely weak, or like a puppet.

Of the two, Biden may be more polished in confrontation, but Palin still sounds more like she has a plan to get things done. I am still more impressed by her record of diversity and change than anything the D ticket can show.

So, I think Palin won the debate, narrowly, but I still wish she would've shown more confidence and power throughout, rather than those small falters in spots. maybe if I'd been watching it wouldn't have been as bad as what it sounded like.
