Character info
Series/Fandom: Sailor Moon (manga derived)
Character's Name: Mizuno Ami/Sailor Mercury
Character's Sex: female
Character's Age: 16
Canon point: end of series
Abilities:
Intelligence: Ami's IQ is rumored to be 300; she is certainly famous as a genius for her performance in school. She is a master of Chess in particular, and a calculated strategist.
Hand to Hand: As a soldier, a senshi, she is quite capable of fighting hand to hand; her legs and thus her kicks tend to be her stronger point here.
Senshi Abilities: Senshi possess the ability to sense their enemies nearby to a certain extent, a resistance (not to say immunity) from brainwashing or sleep spells and other such mental tampering, and a very strong connection to their elements. As the Senshi of Water, Ami is tied to it and can hear its flow, sense it nearby (allowing her to dowse without a pendulum) or within her, and even call on it for help. A psychic connection between the senshi also allows them to sense each other nearby, such as when Usagi is captured by Black Moon and senses the senshi also present on the UFO. [Power caps likely will not affect the psychic connection between the senshi, as it is relatively weak anyway (and is already limited to use between them by its nature).]
Senshi Powers: Distinct from 'senshi abilities', these are the specific powers Ami holds as Sailor Mercury. Hers are water-based, and she most commonly uses Mercury Aqua Rhapsody, which is performed with the aid of a sentient harp she is able to summon at will. She also still frequently uses her ability to create fog or mist to confuse the enemy by occluding her position and her allies' positions.
Sailor Teleport: As it sounds, this is a power that let the senshi teleport together, used by Sailor Moon, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Venus when they combine their powers. [Limited to listed planets due to power caps.] Similarly, Sailor Planet Attack is an extremely powerful attack requiring all five.
Mercury Computer and Visor: These are part and parcel of being Sailor Mercury and belong to her, summoned at will (the visor by touching her earring). The computer is exceedingly powerful thanks to Silver Millenium technology from the past life, and seems to have properties bordering on magical (when she is using it to seek out Usagi and Usagi is within the Dark Kingdom dimension, the cursor jumps off the screen). It is typically used to analyze energy signatures present and has been known to successfully identify illusions and their sources.
Dimensional Powers: With the help of her computer and visor, and proper coordinates, Ami is able to create a small subspace dimension; she uses this at one point to contain the damage from a battle taking place near civilians. [Inapplicable in SK due to power caps]
Strengths:
Intelligence: Ami's intelligence is unmatched; even her enemies have heard of it and often directly challenge her regarding it or express disdain that, despite being so intelligent, Ami still holds on to a belief in dreams and romance. She consistently scores top (read: perfect) marks on national exams and is rumored to have defeated the national junior champion in chess.
Defense: Many of Ami's powers are defensive in nature, such as her use of water or mist or fog to confuse the enemy, hiding the senshi's movements or allowing her to get into better position.
Speed/Dexterity: Physically, these are Ami's strong points. Like all senshi, she is capable of surprising feats of agility such as high jumps or quick dodging, and she has been known to move quickly in order to recover stolen objects from her opponents.
Mercury Aqua Rhapsody: Her strongest water-based attack, Ami performs this with the aid of a sentient harp by calling out the attack's name. As well as a forceful attack, it has been seen to disrupt dark energy and nightmares present.
Strong Will: Like the other girls, Ami tends to fight much stronger and access her stronger powers at times of crisis, such as defending her loved ones.
Weaknesses:
Physical: Ami is small and slight, with little physical strength; she is overpowered physically by enemies in a few shown fights.
Powers: Her powers are demonstrably weaker than the others', leading to her decision to sacrifice herself to let the stronger senshi be the ones to face the enemy.
Emotionalism: When her head is clear, Ami fights her best. When she is confused or unsure, she becomes hesitant and the level of her fighting has been known to decrease dramatically.
Background: [

Appearance: [
Ami] [
Sailor Mercury]
Personality:
Ami is kind, patient, sympathetic, and gentle, and always careful not to offend. She is a dutiful and caring daughter and friend, always helpful, polite and well-mannered, dedicated to her studies and work - in short, a good kid.
While she has a normal and healthy interest in typical teenage pursuits as a fan of the idol group The Three Lights, and while she is the member of the senshi group most likely to grasp the subtleties of Haruka and Michiru's relationship the quickest, Ami tends to be embarrassed if these things are noticed by others. She quickly downplays her (avid) following of the pop group, and when the other girls may get a good look at an attractive shirtless boy, Ami will settle for peeking through her fingers. She also has a very keen appetite for ice cream, which she has been known to say everybody likes.
Although mistaken for snobbish, Ami's seeming aloofness comes from shyness and the simple fact that her mind often works on a different level from her peers; she has an easier time making connections with authority figures and people of older generations. Once she makes friends of her own age, she proves to be quite loyal to them as well, even forsaking her usual non-confrontational approach towards others in order to defend them.
In fact, almost everything Ami does is for others. Working so hard, being so studious, and pushing herself to succeed let Ami feel needed and thus that she has a place among her friends. Although it may seem to an outsider that she only cares about her studies, even this is for the sake of making her parents proud of her and being able to help her loved ones. She herself hates being pigeonholed and seen only as this trait, but she often seems at a loss regarding how to break through it. On the other hand, she truly does go overboard, pushing her friends extremely hard at their study sessions and leading them somewhat tyrannically.
She's conflicted. The child of a hard-working career-driven doctor and a laid-back traveling artist, Ami herself often feels a tension between the dreams and romance she seeks in life and wants to believe in, and the pragmatic viewpoints her intelligence and scientific mind push her towards. Still, these beliefs are one of the few things she will defend and speak up for herself about, often becoming angry if they're treated dismissively. She'd love to share a paopu fruit with someone some day and one of her own dreams is to be loved, for herself, all of her, by someone who can be close to her and know her so intimately that they can get behind the formalities and her innate reserve. Similarly, she sometimes has trouble reconciling her role as a soldier and fighter with her hoped-for future role as a healer and doctor.
Ami is a bridge-builder. When the senshi - and especially Usagi - conflict with others or other groups, it is often Ami who will go out of her way to try to close the gap and bring them into understanding each other better, usually by asserting that her friends mean well, are certainly not malicious, and thus there is no reason not to be able to work together and even become friends.
Strengths:
Strategy: Ami is strongest in mind. She is capable of analyzing battles and strategizing to the point of sacrificing her life not only nobly to save others important to her, but as a calculated move to let those with stronger powers move on to face the tougher foes.
Mind Over Matter: She is capable of immense feats of mind over matter; she has been known to withstand enemy attacks without even reacting to them if she is focusing on analyzing something to help the situation overall (though this is of course rare, and typically angers her enemies).
Planetary Identity: As Mercury, Ami is the soldier born under that planet's protection, the carrier of its star seed as her sailor crystal, as well as its princess and heiress. As a member of the court of the Moon Kingdom in the past life, she lived as an immortal being; though she has been reborn as human this time.
Weaknesses:
Emotional: Ami can be insecure. Although she trusts and loves her friends, she still worries that at some point, they won't need her. Although she places her mother especially, and her family, above everything else, she worries she may be responsible for her parents' divorce and seen as unloveable due to her focus on studying. The real trouble with all of this is that it makes her vulnerable to emotional manipulation.
Competition: Ami can be competitive, even obsessively so, about exam scores and grades. However, face to face, she has been known to lose intentionally to avoid upsetting her opponent - often resulting in offending them by the very act of trying so hard not to.
Love Letters: She is allergic to love letters. Seriously. It's a psychological reaction (of course) that nevertheless results in a painful physical rash if she receives one.

Action/Journal Sample:
[Mizuno Ami does not really like to be kept waiting; it's rude. But she knows, fondly, the quirks and foibles of her friends and so a relaxed smile stays with her as she sips a glass of iced tea while kneeling at a table in a quiet tatami room.
By the time she's finished, they are ten minutes late. She slips a bookmark into her book and takes out a small object, something like a pocket dictionary except for the picture window at its top. She presses a button and begins to speak after clearing her throat and putting on a serious face.]
Everyone, please be prepared to stay at the shrine for study group for an extra thirty minutes to make up for this delay in the beginning.
There are lessons in math and English today. We need enough time to review all the relevant material.
[That, she knows, will make them hurry, primarily for the chance to point out they were only twenty minutes late (they will be by the time they arrive) and shouldn't have to stay the full half-hour.
She opens her book again and smiles quietly to herself.]
RP Sample:
It wasn't like death; Ami knew that. She remembered the sensation as her life was snuffed out each time, a vague and hazy memory but enough to know this was not the same.
Deciding that was small comfort. It felt like the hand of the enemy, cold enough to chill even her, the soldier of Ice. No, it felt like something even more, like when the world had collapsed and been unmade around them. Shivers ran through her in the vast limbo.
Then she fell.
The pain of scraping her legs against the the cobblestones was almost welcome by then; a reassurance that she could feel again. But where was she now?
The voice that suddenly broke into her thoughts startled her, bright and cheerful but nonverbal, reminiscent of the noisings of creatures she'd fought before. Though she didn't attack, her hand subtly reached towards where she kept her transformation wand.
Was someone watching?
It turned out, of course, that all the strange-looking white creature wanted to do was give her a small device. She stared at it, flustered, for just a second before quickly noting its basic functions. A communicator of some sort, then?
"Traverse Town?" She repeated the name by rote, caught up in the pleasure of a new technology, before it seemed to register with her: she'd never heard of somewhere like that.
For now, there was only one way to go: forward. Ami squared her shoulders and gave a brisk nod before agreeing to the tour.

a
post post from a previous game, where Ami was taken from the same canon and timeline point with changes to accomodate the game background (every character was a demigod; she was told of this part of her background and brought to Olympus). Included as direct example of Ami interacting outside canon/in multifandom environment.
