Urgh, I've caught a cold or something. For now, it's not serious enough to have me taking time out of work (because I have to be really REALLY ill to make that decision) but I do feel exhausted and kind of foggy in the head. I'm sure I'll recover soon, but at the moment concentrating is hard so please forgive me if I leave nonsense comments on LJ or seem not to be online much.
HOWEVER I did manage to screencap Aquarion Evol episode 6.
I previously said that it is possible to watch and not miss anything even if you haven't seen the original Aquarion series, and although I think (from the perspective of someone who knows next to nothing about the first series) that does still hold true, the further into the series we get the more the suspicion grows that there are references and stuff that I am not quite aware of, mainly with regards to the reincarnation plot. I see a lot of speculating about which roles the characters are in and who is a reincarnation of who, and so on. But it's not like it's impossible to piece it together from what information Evol gives, I just wonder how different an experience watching it and knowing the 12,000 years ago history would be. I do intend to rewatch after seeing Sousei no Aquarion eventually, to find out. (I think it's basically set up to be a DEFY DESTINY thing, but there might be some surprises in store.)
Oh, and this is the episode in which I became aware that I am actually taking it seriously now. Oops. I mean not SERIOUSLY seriously because the best thing about it is still all the delicious crack this series is on, but am I invested in certain characters and do I care about the outcome of the series as a whole? Uh, yeah.
I also think this is the point at which SPOILERS are going to adversely affect how fun the series is to watch. So if you're thinking of trying it, NOW IS THE TIME.
23 SCREENCAPS.
HAVE I ESTABLISHED THAT THERE ARE GOING TO BE SPOILERS IN HERE?
I DON'T CARE IF YOU DON'T CARE, SO NOW THAT THAT'S OUT OF THE WAY...
I don't believe for a MINUTE that Shrade is dead.
I think I'm largely past the point where I'd fear for the life of a character who seems to be dead right at the end of an episode unless I WANT to flounder around in my emotions about a hurt character or something (I can be indulgent like that sometimes). I am so used to OH LOOK HE'S DEAD END OF THE EPISODE and then in the next episode WAIT NOT REALLY. I mean, it is SO RARE for a series to do that kind of thing and MEAN it, and especially for it to happen to early on in the series, and the few times I have seen it it's felt a bit like a punch to the gut and left me feeling truly out of sorts about it (which I suppose means it was truly effective).
ANYWAY Shrade is clearly still going to be important to the plot. It's a little weird, because what happened in this episode is all stuff that I EXPECTED to happen (piloting Aquarion despite it being dangerous for him to do so, taking Cayenne's place to go out and fight when Cayenne is injured in combat) but much further down the line. And it's interesting not only because it happened sooner than I thought it would, but because it was subtly different, too (he pilots Aquarion in place of Cayenne to fight against Kagura but it's not really a heroic sacrifice so much as his own self-centred desires and need to feel validated coming to the fore, and he has a tragic backstory but also doesn't seem to show regret about having become/been used as a weapon of murder). Huh.
I want to know about whatever is going on between him and that Abductor he named a while back.
I am more interested in this than I thought.
I mean, this episode made Shrade seem quite sinister at times (where he was talking at the beginning), as though there's this undercurrent to him that is more than dangerous and might even tend towards malicious. I got the impression that he might even have LIKED using his talent to hurt others. He has something planned, that much is clear. I wonder if he's going to turn out to be a traitor?
IF THAT'S TRUE AT LEAST LET IT BE ANGSTY AND IF HE HAS TO DIE THEN LET IT BE CAYENNE. UGH THE THOUGHT OF MY EVOL OTP FIGHTING TO THE DEATH. DO NOT KNOW IF WANT.

YEAH, he's talking to Cayenne. I LOVE IT.

THIS EPISODE SHOULD BE A DRINKING GAME. FOR EACH MIKONO-SAN OR KUSO ONNA THAT YOU HEAR, TAKE A SHOT.
I can't figure Kagura out. I hated him a lot at first and I wouldn't say I LIKE him now (and I definitely don't think he's a better match for Mikono than Amata, considering the way he treats her) but moments like this do make me wonder because it seems like he's surprised as well, perhaps taken unaware by his own response. Is Kagura a reincarnation of the person who the previous incarnation of Mikono loved? I wonder whether he was a nicer person then (since that guy was the main character I am assuming he was)? And is that other side of him now trying to come through? ARE THESE EMOTIONS REAL EMOTIONS OR JUST ECHOES.
I love Amata so much, but I also think it would be interesting to see someone like Kagura gain more awareness of what he's doing and change for the better or at least get all hopelessly confused by it (MY REDEMPTION KINK, LET ME SHOW YOU IT). Perhaps we'll get a situation where Kagura/Mikono starts to seem like it could have potential as a relationship in which both of them could be happy.
I am liking this reincarnation deal more than I expected to.
Because it's so delicious to see these characters all conflicted and unsure of what they're feeling or WHY they're feeling it, and I can't wait to see what will win out in the end.

Oh, so HERE is the reason why there was a random dude playing violin in the background last episode. It was just so Shrade could take it and use it as a weapon.
![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/ArtIsFrustrated/ae6-04.jpg)
HNNNGH SHRADE IS HOT.
![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/ArtIsFrustrated/ae6-05.jpg)
OH GOD I ALMOST DIED
![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/ArtIsFrustrated/ae6-06.jpg)
HE PLAYED A PIANO AND HIS OWN PARENTS KILLED EACH OTHER BECAUSE OF HIS MUSIC
![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/ArtIsFrustrated/ae6-07.jpg)
THEN HE BECOMES A SEXY WEAPON OF MURDER (seriously I want more details of this)
![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/ArtIsFrustrated/ae6-08.jpg)
WHOSE HEALTH IS NOT SO GREAT
![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/ArtIsFrustrated/ae6-09.jpg)
TRAGIC BACKSTORY ACCHIEVED (with the twist that Shrade doesn't seem to regret his past or show any remorse over the people he was responsible for killing). I was also surprised at how old he seemed to be when he got reacruited to Neo-DEAVA. I mean, it makes sense for them to take on Elements who could help their cause no matter what age they discover them at, but surely this means that some of them will have COUGH UM experienced male-female Union or something prior to the enforced gender segregation?

All these strange emotions are surfacing, I love it.
Kagura is so awful to her but she's drawn to him anyway. I prefer Amata right now because HE'S NOT ABUSIVE AND DOESN'T KIDNAP PEOPLE. I also like Amata because he's got just enough determination to him. He's not weak and he can and will fight if he needs to.
![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/ArtIsFrustrated/ae6-11.jpg)
Kagura manages to injure Cayenne, does so easily in fact.
![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/ArtIsFrustrated/ae6-12.jpg)
WHOSE VOICE COULD THAT BE
![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/ArtIsFrustrated/ae6-13.jpg)

Cayenne offers a cursory protest about Shrade's health, but Shrade ends up in the cockpit anyway and after some OH NO YOU CAN'T POSSIBLY PILOT AQUARION the loli who is in charge says OH GO ON THEN IF YOU MUST. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN SO EASY TO CALL HIM BACK. THERE WERE OTHER PILOTS.
![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/ArtIsFrustrated/ae6-15.jpg)
CAYENNE IS SO FORLORN HERE I LOVE IT
I WANT TO SEE HIM FEELING GUILT FOR WHAT HAPPENED TO SHRADE IN THE NEXT EP PLEASE
![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/ArtIsFrustrated/ae6-16.jpg)
AWH, ANDY.
I want to say his time will come, but I suspect this is going to be a running gag in the series.
![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/ArtIsFrustrated/ae6-17.jpg)
Well I'M not ready for you to die.
![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/ArtIsFrustrated/ae6-18.jpg)
MORE SCENES LIKE THIS PLEASE.
STUPID OPEN SHIRT COLLAR.
![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/ArtIsFrustrated/ae6-19.jpg)
AMATA QUESTIONS HIS SEXUALITY.
![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/ArtIsFrustrated/ae6-20.jpg)
There were LOTS of ridiculous lines like this. Add this to the drinking game. REFERENCES TO MUSIC ARE ONE SHOT EACH TOO.
This is where it becomes clear that Shrade's main motivation for piloting Aquarion is not to save or protect or whatever but BECAUSE IT IS WHAT HE LIVES FOR. So it's not a heroic sacrifice so much as a selfish desire to fulfil his own aims, which doesn't exactly fill me with hope for his future actions, although it IS kind of sad that he feels this is all he can live for (maybe he does regret how his life turned out and has buried those feelings deep down). OR MAYBE HE'S JUST MECHASEXUAL.
![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/ArtIsFrustrated/ae6-21.jpg)
Oh dear.
![](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v333/ArtIsFrustrated/ae6-22.jpg)
He's not looking too great at the end of the episode.
THERE WERE NO CATS IN THIS EPISODE.
I AM DISAPPOINT.
