Okay. So, I've been unable to keep the smile from my face since I watched it.
If I had any fears about not being as into it? If there was any doubt, it all disippated the moment Masamune first opened his mouth. OH GOD I LOVE HIM SO MUCH. It's hard to believe it's been so long since the first season finished because knowing that this will be part of my weekly routine/list of things to look forward to again feels SO RIGHT. I've been minimal with the screencaps here but only because it was an all or nothing scenario and after being struck with a terrible headache last night I'm still feeling tired and kind of fragile. Anyway, here's a few carefully selected caps and my reaction to the episode.
YUKIMURA KIND OF FAILED THIS EPISODE.
I also feel your disappointment, Kojuro.
But if we get nice little scenes like this, then I guess it's worth it?
FUCK ME, HIDEYOSHI IS HUGE.
I CAN'T HELP BUT BE TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE WHEN IT COMES TO KOJURO AND FOLIAGE.
It's... He's just so tender when he strokes the leaf...
DON'T TRY TO TELL ME HE'S NOT THINKING HAPPY THOUGHTS ABOUT MASAMUNE.
I should have capped Hanbei! Don't know why I didn't.
And after those sadly abridged screencaps, some general (or specific) thoughts on the first episode of S2...
I've heard a lot of people say the new opening isn't as good as the old one...and I guess I agree (because the old one would be hard to beat) but actually I am already quite partial to the new one as it's nice and catchy and for me kind of typifies what I'm looking for in an anime OP that I wouldn't otherwise ever listen to LMAO. So terrible but in the best possible way. I guess I'll end up listening to it a lot.
Didn't cap this but I loved the part where Kojuro goes to Masamune's aid (good logic there Kojuro; one enemy each) and is fighting Hanbei; there's a moment where in the midst of crossing swords with Hanbei his eyes flick quickly to the side to check out how Masamune's faring against Hideyoshi (THAT MAN IS LIKE A MOUNTAIN OMG I AM A BIT SCARED).
Also enjoyed Shingen versus Kenshin because I ship it hard.
I am mourning Shingen's fantastic big black horses though as they seem to have been replaced with shetland ponies. Uh.
Hanbei also blatantly wants Kojuro. I mean, he knows Kojuro and Masamune's daily routine (and probably wants to get in on it). And he's come to recruit Kojuro. The preview for the next episode looked very exciting. A lot happened this episode and I think it would be pretty strange to watch it without having seen the first season, but from the news article about it bringing in record numbers of viewers I suppose it must have done quite well? That's good, because it deserves to. I watched the whole episode with a silly fangirl grin on my face and there are few series that do that to me (just bad luck for my life and spare time that two of them now happen to be airing concurrently...).
