Couldn't Resist

Uh, I finally caved in and bought myself a paid account.

It really doesn't cost that much. Kind of amazed that it's taken me this long, given that I've had a journal here for over four years now (I know many have had theirs longer, but I can't honestly remember being without it and it's quite a major part of my life now). I think I justified the spending with the excuse that it would make me happier. Which it has. I'm currently slowly attempting to fill all the empty icon spaces I now have by populating them with glorious new icons, but since I don't have that much spare time at the moment it's likely to be a long and drawn out process. A fun one, though.

I haven't mentioned anything much about what's been going on in my life recently, but that's quite possibly because my life currently consists of eating, sleeping and writing my dissertation. I also found out last week that the presentation I'm supposed to be giving in a week's time had been shunted forward to tomorrow instead, due to the fact that nobody could get hold of the book we were supposed to be discussing. I have that book. How ironic. Anyway, I managed to get that out of the way yesterday, and then this afternoon suddenly had a flash of inspiration and actually wrote quite an extensive section of my dissertation, largely involving false impressions about rat behaviour that are perpetuated through scenes intended to instill fear in fiction and film. So essentially, no, rats will not eat your babies. Oh, dissertation, I think I may be growing to love you a little, after all.

As for what's been going outside anything academic, not a lot, really. On Friday a group of us went out to celebrate my housemate's birthday, and that was lovely. I had what might have been the most delicious bean chilli in the world, and I also had quite a few cocktails, which led to a hilarious conversation with Tom (also drunk) about Gundam 00. He's seen the first episode and has been subjected to me talking about it far too often, and I don't think he's particularly interested in watching the series in its entirety, but because I was moderately tipsy by that point I decided to persuade him that he should join me on the marathon watching of the entire series that I have planned for when my dissertation is finished. I'm not sure whether I was successful in my mission or not. I was probably too busy laughing at the fact that he got horrible confused and started referring to Lockon as Longshot or something similar, repeatedly. Following our departure from the pub, we headed straight for a party at the house of another friend, where I drank delicious pear cider and then decided that the party was too crowded, a realisation that led to my exit via the garden gate. The real reason I left probably had something to do with the fact that my dissertation was very much on my mind (work hadn't gone too well that day).

The next day, just as the hangover was beginning to fade, I received an irate phonecall from my sister, telling me to open my front door. I did so. I was then led out to her car, in the back of which was a large white leather armchair. She'd first acquired it when the place she was working at the time decided to dispose of it. Following this, it sat in my parent's bedroom for months on end because there was no room for it anywhere else. She claimed that she would take it to university with her, and the weekend before last, she finally did, and it was installed in her living room, much to the delight of her housemates (it is undeniably comfortable). A couple of days later, a letter arrived from hospitality services letting her know that she had 48 hours to remove it. Of course, the first thought to enter her head was that it would fit in my room. And it did, eventually. I might not let her have it back now. It's in the perfect position to see my computer screen, and has thusly been designated the anime chair. I haven't informed her of this yet.

I am already anticipating a strongly negative reaction.

Also, the kitchen here is currently infested with ants. It doesn't bother me much. In fact, it's worth it just to watch my housemate D react by hysterically attempting to sweep them out of the back door with a broom.
