Disney is actually pretty awesome about acquiring creative companies and still letting them do their own thing (see: Pixar) without trying to Disney-ize it.

The only concern is that they're a little bit uptight about the characters they own. So the only issue is that there might be more Cease and Desist letters sent out to costume-makers who take commissions to make Marvel costumes or possibly even costumers wearing costumes that aren't legally licensed or wearing them in ways that aren't sanctioned by the company.

I've heard of a few people who make their money doing costume commissions getting the C&D letters. But on the other hand, Marvel is still celebrating costumers/cosplayers by highlighting pictures of cons on there site so from what I can tell, their issue is people making a profit off their characters. Which I can understand, even if it does make it harder on costumers who aren't as skilled at creating costumes themselves.

And I'm sorry because this is completely specialized to my little segment of the fandom, though I'd imagine it might theoretically carry over to Etsy shops that sell superhero swag as well.
