This would be funny if it hadn't been such a scary and annoying experience for the poor guy. I mean good grief, that could happen to me, and I'll think more carefully about my choice of reading matter on flights in future.

Okay. So I looked up Vance Gilbert on Facebook. Turns out we have a mutual friend (I suspected that we might once I read that he's a traveling folkie), and I sent him a message. It pretty much said "I can't help with an airline, but I can help with anything else in Chattanooga if you're ever down this way." And I meant it. I can do precious little to affect the larger world, but I can, by God, help out in the smaller scheme.
