Moving complete

Aug 29, 2010 23:35

Geez, I’ve been gone so long from the internet that returning was mildly filled with dread and anxiety. I have my LiveJournal friends page skipping back until I get bored, and digging through 232 unreads posts in my Bloglines, and yeah. The temptation to skip everything is really highg right now.

So, what have I been up do for the past however long?

I submitted my thesis

I mean holy crap, people. There were times I thought I’d never get it done. “Should have finished her PhD by now was so ingrained as part of my identity (and, associated, my self-esteem) that I could hardly imagine this. Now, although two years late (thank a first two years of drifting aimlessly and doing nothing), I’ve submitted. Now, there’s the viva, and the much better prospect of writing up parts for actual publication.

I moved out of my flat

The flat I’d lived in for four years, with my best friend and flatmate of eight years, who knows me like I know her and who had endless amounts of patience for my flaws. And who would never fail in reminding me to eat.

I moved countries

I am now writing this from the living room of my spacious little apartment (no, that’s not an oxymoron) in Brooklyn, while new roomie Ana watches anime and while my girlfriend sleeps in my bedroom. And today we’re going to IKEA before I start next week to sort out my new life as a masters student in education.

If I wasn’t so tired, I’d be freaking out.

So what’s up with you?
