This is now becoming a SAGA

As a follow-up to this post:

People, if you work in retail, and someone phones up to find out if you stock a certain product, tell the truth.

I mean, tell the truth in general, no matter where you work and what the circumstance, but particularly if someone asks you a direct question, in the hope that the answer might save them time of justify some effort.

If someone phones up and asks for a certain product, don't interrupt them and say 'yes we definitely have that' if they're then going to walk through the treacherous snowy conditions to your shop in order to buy that product. Don't wave away their questions and assure them you have the product without checking, and if they come into your shop through the cold and the snow, don't tell them it'll be delivered in an hour if you're not prepared for them to then settle down to spend that hour in your shop, because it's an hour round trip for them home and back anyway and they have nothing else to do.

Meanwhile any jokes about 'oh can I make you a cup of coffee while you're waiting?' WILL be taken as a genuine, generous offer because giving you the benefit of the doubt is the only thing stopping you from getting a punch in the smug patronising face. And yes, it would be a good idea to phone the delivery company, because no, I'm not going anywhere because I happen to need a fluorescent light tube, thank you very much.

Grah. That was the only place within walking distance, as well.
