It's a post of ramble, but it's a post, dammit!

One of the major reasons that my blog has been so quiet recently, isn't just that I don't have the concentration to blog, though concentration's been at a premium for me, and it isn't just that I've fallen out of the habit, though I have. It's also that I'm aware that my blogging pre-hiatus was of a certain quality, and as the hiatus stretched, I ( Read more... )

I'm going to try and update more regularly

Hooray! And you are quite right about not holding yourself up to unrealistic standards over it. I think that for most of us, our best posts rise up out of the mix when we are already in the habit of posting something on a relatively regular basis - warming ourselves up for the big ones, as it were. So do please feel free to get yourself nice and toasty-snug with some smaller, simpler posts - and we'll await the substantial epics with pleasure.

Interestingly, you are actually one of a good six or seven people on my flist recently whom I've seen emerging out of hibernation, stretching, flexing their typing fingers and getting back into the habit of posting. So I guess quite a few people have maybe done a quick stock-take over the festive period, and resolved to get back into the habit of posting more regularly.

As yet, you're the first person I've seen who has linked their reappearance (even obliquely) with getting sick of Facebook, but I know I've started thinking along those lines myself recently too. Why should I write a short, insubstantial status update on Facebook, which my boss will be able to see, and which I can't really have a proper conversation about in the comments, when I could turn the same idea into a more meaningful post here on LJ and get some proper interaction out of it? Facebook certainly has its merits, but I don't want to let it take the place of posting on LJ.

This updates to Facebook's notes anyway, and I'm getting more and more comments there. It serves a purpose (link sharing for a major one), but I like it here.
