Comics of the week.

I really am not going to write Dinah's perspective of the events of the Longbow Hunters. And you don't want me too, either (no, you don't). I've been composing it in my head and it's made me all tense. So I'm not going to pick at that quite yet. Instead, have my opinions on this week's comics.

Green Arrow Black Canary
Gail Simone set me up for a disappointment on this one. After her superb Faces of Evil take on Secret Six, in which Bane and Deadshot took control of the narration and we got to see everything in their own words, with one neat little dig on Deadshot's part on a certain lippy mercenary form another company, that made me glee. After that, I was expecting Faces of Evil to all be told through the villain's eyes, but this was just a normal comic with Merlyn on the front.

I really like the way Kreisberg writes character interaction. I love Ollie and Dinah plying Scrabble and Ollie trying to use 'diss'; and I also liked the awkwardness of the Babs/Dinah - this is before the recent run in with the Joker and Dinah's still angry at Babara; the fight itself jars, but it's still nicely done. And I'm a fan of the overall setup - I like crime solving assassin-hunting so much better than Amazon kidnapping alien stupidity deBuddhist-ing Connor. Even if the start of the new 'special relationship' with the policeman reeks of Ollie's ongoing Batcrush, it's also a good idea and I like to see non-super good guys.

I am not happy with Dinah apparently being a giant incompetant who needs to be rescued by Ollie at every turn. She kicked Merlyn's arse in her own miniseries; on her own in seconds flat. How is a woman who can snatch arrows from the air and destroy buildings with a scream, suddenly so rubbish?

That's not to mention the new villain - a woman Ollie saved last issue who is now super in love with him and masturbating with his arrows until she bleeds. That's just icky.

Final Crisis
This, I am liking. Well, apart from the Slut!Mary Marvel and the WonderBatCat trio of dominatrices. I think the plot is pretty awesome, and while I'm still not exactly sure how Batman got from RIP to FC (and yes, I am caught up on Batman), I expect great things from the conclusion. Besides, after seeing Oliver save the strangely incompetent Dinah for the second month in a row, it was nice to see her beating the crap out of him.

It's difficult to read in installments, but it's definitely a great comic event.
