Wishlist Meme 2008

Nov 03, 2008 10:41

I have once again decided not to do Yuletide this year. I think it's more important I stay focused on my life right now rather than trying to force fanfic. I also am going to have to pas on pouring a lot of energy into Hogswatch - which isn't to say I won't try to enjoy it this year. Last year I was so wrapped up in my misery that I forgot to care for myself and had a horrible time.

So I'm doing this meme, but with no commitment to myself. I won't be able to give to everyone I love, so I'll let myself give where I can, and benefit like that.

Step One

- Make a post to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related to medium to really big. The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

- If you wish for real life things, make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa could get in touch with you.

- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two

- Surf around your friendslist to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special
  1. Craft Supplies I'm back to hobbies: knitting, embroidery and dress making as something to keep my hands occupied in a way that lets my brain relax, and so I'm eager to play with any textiles people have - spare knitting yarn, duplicate needles, excess fabric you never think you'll use, old clothes that you never wear, even projects you never think you'll finish, pass them on.
  2. Guided Meditation and recorded talks on meditation, mindfulness, or the philosophy of your choice. Something that's helped you improve your peace of mind and you think might help me.
  3. Paid Time on LJ for any of the pups listed on the userinfo on innermuses, but especially Mel,Will, Claire or Dinah.
  4. Donate to charity  - and I say this every year, but be mindful about your donations. Choose a charity that operates in practises you find ethical and prioritises issues you find important, without pushing agendas you find unethical. If you really are donating in my name (money or goods to a shop), then may I recommend Oxfam, Medicins sans Frontiers, or a support endeavour in your local community. While we're on that:
  5. Your time. Forget monetary issues for a minute. Are there any community projects going on in your neighbourhood over the holiday period? It doesn't have to be meals on wheels or soup kitchens, just volunteer for  something for however long you have, that doesn't involve adding to your own holiday stress. Then write about it, please.
  6. Travel this is not just a long shot, but I'll probably be shocked into panic if anyone managed it. However, it would feel weird not to ask for it. I am in a transatlantic relationship and I don't get to see my girlfriend half as much as I like. All I really want is someway to see her a little more often.
  7. Socks. My feet are corrosive or something - I wear through socks like they're made of paper and therefore never have enough. Size - UK 7/8
  8. Hats. Two things - a) I have great hat fu and look awesome in them. b) I am terminally absent minded and lose hats a lot, it's embarrassing. I don't even know how I lost my Trilby, but I miss it. I'm also hoping one day to have a tricorn. Size - UK 7
  9. Icons - RP type expressive icons for any of my pups, or some interesting personal ones that might fit some of the tags I use on my posts - maybe Buddhism, knitting, that kind of thing.
  10. Munchkin Booty. My favourite card game finally has a pirate version, and I don't own it. This is wrong.

I collect addresses on this post here. A flocked post with my own contact details is forthcoming. There's also my Amazon wishlist on the sidebar to my journal.
