weaverandom wanted to know about the following icons.
The picture is Paul Kidby's interpretation of Terry Pratchett's Death (from the Discworld). There is glitter on his face. The text is a misquote from the first X-Men movie.
The general reference is Milliways. Death was the first PFC* I really took up in Milliways. I'd had Angua for a while, and Susan, but until then my main characters had been Eskarina Smith from Equal Rites and Melaka Fray. Characters that are going to attract less attention for who they are and more for how I play them. I could handle that. not so much Death. Everyone knows Death. Even people who have never picked up a Discworld book are going to know what a skeleton in a black cowl and a scythe is up to. I really didn't want to fuck him up.
I was worried, you see, not because I didn't have a headvoice for him when I started him - I did, and still do. But because this headvoice, which is loud and boomy, also leans towards the silly and cracky, rather than the more serious bent Death sometimes takes in the books.
So I was worried I was going to play him too silly and cracky, and therefore OOC. But I assured myself that at least I'd never put him in purple spandex. The
purple spandex, BTW, is all the fault of bookelfe, shati, psychicsaphie and mercuriazs,. because they put their characters in it first. I was just awake and enabling at the time.
Anyway, so I was all worried I'd play him too cracky. I put him in the bar all nervous, and what happens?

But it could be worse. I still haven't put him in purple spandex, after all!

I grew up on Winnie the Pooh. Not the Disney cartoons, which I didn't have any truck with when I was 4, but the proper A.A. Milne stories, illustrated by E.H. Shepard. Die Schwester had a talking book of Alan Bennet reading The House at Pooh Corner in his friendly, comfortable Yorkshire way, which worked its way well and truly into our consciousness and will always be the voice I hear when reading. For a long time they looked at the river beneath them, saying nothing, and the river said nothing too, for it felt very quiet and peaceful on this summer afternoon.
"Tigger is all right, really," said Piglet lazily.
"Of course he is," said Christopher Robin.
"Everybody is really," said Pooh. "That's what I think," said Pooh. "But I don't suppose I'm right," he said.
"Of course you are," said Christopher Robin.
Winnie the Pooh is very often my idol.

It was Bing who pointed me to the strip and mentioned she wanted an icon of Shredder. So, naturally, I complied. And took the icon for myself because sometimes there are situations which can be only described with a doubletaking Shredder.
Gosh, I hate this icon. Innit fugly? I made it because I spent far too long in my first year trying to wrap my head around pubic anatomy. When I finally figured it out, I declared myself the winner, and Dave declared me Mistress of the pubis. Bing told me to make an icon of it, and this was the only passable picture of an ornithischian (hadrosaur, if you're interested) pubis I could find. Meh. Fugly as Hell. *marks it to be revamped or deleted*. I use it when I'm talking about bones, specifically dinosaurian bones, and my general Palaeontology icon feels overused.
Talking of my general palaeontology icon:
This lovely lady here is Paleontologist Barbie. I first found out she existed on a LERN*** fieldtrip to the Isle of Wight back in... well, a long time ago. Part of the 1996 'career Barbie' line, showing that for Barbie, having an actual career is a novelty. (I miss Sindy. She had a successful career as a fashion designer). Barbie is blonde, pretty, and wears shorts and a dinosaur T shirt. Exactly how I dress out on digs. I think this icon is perhaps the one I've had on this journal the very longest. It's had one revamp since first being cropped and uploaded, I know, but I still use it. And one of these days, someone will buy me one. You'll see.
Even though I'm probably selling out the sisterhood by choosing a leggy blonde as my avatar in the online world. Shush.
