So I just got back from seeing Arthur Christmas!
AND IT WAS REALLY CUTE. Like, the previews didn't look that impressive, but it was adorable and funny and I loved it. More details below the cut!

So as the story goes, there’s not just one infinitely old Santa. The Claus’s are a family that passes down the title of Santa from father to son throughout the centuries. The current Santa, the 20th (who’s real name is Malcolm,) lives at the North Pole with his father (‘Grandsanta’,) his wife and two sons, Steve and Arthur. Steve is the capable, technological genius who engineers the complex and high tech Christmas operation every year and hopes to become the next Santa once his father retires (and he’s hoping he retires soon.) Arthur works at answering the letters kids send to Santa, and in spite of being hopelessly clumsy and awkward and clueless and a bit of a coward, he gets into the Christmas spirit more than anyone and wholeheartedly believes that his dad is the greatest person ever (which he tells the kids when he writes back to them, assuring them that Santa is real and they’ll get their Christmas wish.)
All goes well until there’s a mistake and Steve and Malcolm manage to accidentally miss delivering a present to a single child. Steve doesn’t think it’s worth all the trouble to go back and fix the mistake, and Malcolm is befuddled by all the technology and trusts Steve’s judgement that it’s just not possible. Arthur, however, IS CRUSHED. He personally remembers the letter from the girl who was missed and is horrified at the thought that her Christmas will be ruined and she’ll think Santa doesn’t care about her. So, with the help of Grandsanta (who just wants to prove to Steve that his old-fashioned ways of doing the Santa business are better than all this new fangled mumbo-jumbo) and stowaway elf Bryony (who is an expert present wrapper as she loves to mention every five minutes,) Arthur goes to correct the mistake and deliver the present. Except that Arthur is a fail-bucket, Bryony isn’t good at much that doesn’t involve present wrapping and Grandsanta is older than dirt and doesn’t know much about the modern world (he is surprised to find that there are people living in Canada and confuses Tanzania with France. He also retired in 1962 after almost causing WWIII, which probably says something about his skills as Santa.)

Meanwhile, Steve and Malcolm discover what Arthur’s up to and can’t decide what to do about it, the elves are in a crisis when they start to doubt that Santa cares about kids, and the world thinks the old fashioned sleigh that’s on a path of fail around the globe is an alien invasion. Hilarity ensues.

It's all just cute and funny and the ending is sweet, so if you like lighthearted Christmas movies, go check this one out!
