Dear Yuletide Writer
Hello, dear Yuletide Writer, and thank you so very much in advance for writing for me! ♥
I babble a lot in this letter, but it's just to give you inspiration and possibilities; I hope it doesn't pressure you in any way! Just write a fic that will be fun for you to write, and I'm sure I'll love it!
I guess I should give you some idea of my fanfic likes and dislikes...
Likes (in no particular order, some mutually exclusive, and all definitely not required!):
Character interaction
Use of bits of canon in interesting or unexpected ways
Hurt-comfort
Sweetness or fluff
Plot
Cute or funny hijinks as a substitute for plot!
Crossovers (I adore crossovers, even with fandoms I've never heard of, so feel free to do that if you like!)
Slash, het, AND gen (I'm not usually much into femslash, but I will totally understand if the Oglaf request goes in that direction!)
I have a guilty soft spot for emotional melodrama, but understated relationships where the affection is never openly stated are great too.
Dislikes:
Darkfic (some degree of bittersweetness or darkness or tragedy is fine, but I don't really like overwhelming hopelessness or pain)
Pure smut or plot-what-plot; extremely detailed sex scenes (I have no real objection to NC-17 scenes, but I generally prefer to skim over them in favor of character development or plot)
Squicks:
Embarrassment (characters making fools of themselves or being made fools of in front of others)
Ostracism/Bullying (characters being rejected and made fun of for not fitting into a group) -- I can take it as a minor plot point, but please nothing major!
And now some babbling about my requests--expanding on them, why I requested them, why I like them, etc.!
Oglaf - Kronar's Daughter
How is it being raised as a “son” in an all-male society, or going out into the world after being raised that way? I’d prefer more of an “awesomely interesting gender identity” angle than an “angsting over screwed-up gender identity” angle. (F/M, F/F, multi, and gen are all welcome...but I'd like character development more than porn.)
“Son of Kronar” was the first Oglaf strip I ever saw, and I knew instantly that I wanted fic about Kronar’s daughter. How would Kronar raise her? How would she think of herself? What will she do when she's grown up? The inclusion of Kronar, Kronar's Viking Husband, the shaman who delivered the baby, and any other characters from the cast is welcome!
(I suspect I’ve developed a bit of a thing for the “female self-identifies as a man because being a warrior and being a man are inseparable concepts” trope due to Kaze Hikaru...)
Spartacus: Blood and Sand - Pietros
I would really really love for Pietros to get a bit of plot for himself after Barca’s death, instead of being killed off almost immediately afterwards. Does he uncover the truth about Barca's disappearance? Does he join Spartacus' escape plot? Does he do something entirely different? (Gen is welcome; pairing Pietros with someone else is also fine!)
For a combination of inspiration and heartbreak, I highly urge people to look at the comments here and here reacting to 1.06 Delicate Things! The commenters came up with some really intriguing and wonderful speculations about the character development and role in the story that Pietros might get in the aftermath of Barca’s death, and it’s totally heartbreaking that none of these came to pass. Also, in 1.07 Great and Unfortunate Things he seemed completely isolated and therefore without help; instead of that I'd like to see his relationships with the other characters develop--does he get close to the tough but kind Doctore? The rebel Spartacus? Barca's now-wounded best friend Crixus?
A Little Night Music - Anne Egerman, Frederik Egerman
I'd love a glimpse into the happy parts of Frederik and Anne's marriage--what he experiences "with his eyes closed," a girl in a pink dress teasing a canary and running to meet him at the gate. Basically, Anne bringing sunshine and silliness into Frederik's life. I'd also love a look at what Anne feels about Frederik--sure, she mistook platonic love for romantic love, but that's still a form of love.
I don’t ship Frederik and Anne in the sense of wishing they had stayed together-I’m quite happy with the way the pairings turned out-but I found Frederik’s explanation of his eyes-closed bliss with Anne very touching.
The pic above is from the production I watched last October that inspired this request. Cris Villonco as Anne was cheerfully affectionate, childishly loud, and charmingly airheaded, and Noni Buencamino as Frederik conveyed a wry awareness of the ridiculousness of the situation, and a tired but amused sense of being swept off his feet and head over heels anyway. So I'd love to see more of that dynamic; more of what they were getting from each other during their apparently happy (though chaste) marriage.
El Indio - any
In the event that anyone recognizes this request, I’ll take pretty much anything! Canon het pairings--Fernando/Victoria hijinks or Blanquita/Sabas reunion! Gen--Victoria being her badass self! Slash--Fernando and "Felipe San Juan" bonding in Spain or having a reunion after the story! Slashy unknowingly-incesty UST--sparks flying between Fernando and Sabas (yeah, I went there)!
Continuing my annual tradition of having one Pinoy-bait fandom, hehehe. My strongest ship for this is probably Fernando/Felipe San Juan-slashy bonding as “Felipe” introduces Fernando to his Filipino heritage! However, I also love Victoria and her secret badassery-you notice that the author had to employ what I like to call an “ahas ex machina” to take her down! And I love the volatile dynamic between Fernando and Kapitan Castillo/Sabas as they’re vying for Victoria’s hand-it teeters so much between mutual admiration and mutual enmity. (Feel free to interpret this dynamic in a totally gen way; please ignore me and my ramblings about unknowingly-incesty UST…)
NOTE: I made a mistake when entering the character names for the nomination! If anyone was confused about why the heck Antonio Luna was on the list, I actually meant to refer to Juan Luna a.k.a. Felipe San Juan; I couldn’t find my copy of the graphic novel to refresh my memory!
