well, i don't have much time write an essay (though i'll try at some point) but i will say this, just to you:

Were you a pre-teen or teen girl in the late 80s and early 90s? Do you remember penpal ads and slambooks? Did you collect stationery, address labels and have a special pen?

UM HELLO. YES. hahaha. oh jesus, i LOVED IT. i was seriously obsessed. i LOVED those pen pal ads in bop and tiger beat magazine etc, those celebrity mags. and i was VERY AGAINST writing to boys. no, it had to be girls from exotic countries. they couldn't be from canada. hell no. what an atrocity that would be, a penpal in the same province.

did i ever tell you about my eraser collection? probably not, because why the hell would i? like when we meet in toronto am i going to say hey, helena, wanna hear about my eraser collection? well, i'll tell you now. i collected erasers for like 5+ years. my father totally supported this addiction and took me to stationary stores constantly. i still have the collection, though i gave it to my girls and they just threw it all over the place and lost pieces and i got sort of mad. okay, very mad. maybe a little too mad, haha. i had HUNDREDS. ballerinas, cars, bicycles, etc. i found the ballerina propped up next to the cat's dish the other day with a note that tied to her that said dear blacky, i love you, from halle. i stopped being mad. haha.

and my stationary collection! i would always save one piece in pristine condition. i could mail away the other sheets, but nope, one piece from each set belonged to ME.
