How to Design a Metaphor.
I continue to shape and test metaphors for private-sector clients and others. In both cases, these metaphors are meant to help people to understand the unfamiliar. They aren’t supposed to make someone remark: ‘That’s beautiful.’ They’re meant to make someone realise that they’ve only been looking at one side of a thing.
How Apple's Transcendent Chihuahua Killed The Revolution
Rather than thinking of the iPhone as a smartphone, like a Treo or a BlackBerry or, eventually, the Android devices that would mimic it, one would do better to think of the iPhone as a pet.
On Chicken Tenders
This is because chicken tenders are perfect. They’re perfect in flavor, perfect in aroma, perfect in shape, perfect in color. They’re salty and savory, crisp and juicy, easy to eat with the hands but absolutely okay to go at with a knife and fork.
The Problem of the Flying Puppies
I also wrestle with the knowledge that there are thousands of dogs in my city’s shelters who need loving homes, and yet I’m choosing a Frenchie.
