three short stories

May 22, 2014 13:48

1. There are a pair of Canada geese living by my apartment. Every morning when I walk Carden, we encounter them, and they walk away from us quacking and fussing as we walk, so we’re basically herding them along.

Today they brought reinforcements.

2. The movie Jerry Maguire came out when I was 12. My sister and her best friend snuck me into the theater to see it. For some reason, the part that’s stuck with me to this day is the following speech:

“There is such a thing as manners. As a way of treating people. Like these fish. These fish have manners. And they’re coming with me.”

I’ve been reciting that to myself a lot at work lately.

3. I continue to wonder what kind of magical sugar-flavored jizz Mikey Way is packing that makes these women turn their entire lives upside down for him inside of, like… six weeks? Two months? It’s amazing. Weirdly enough it makes me believe even more in the Summer of Like, because he and Pete had two to three months, too. I’m surprised they didn’t get each other’s name tattooed across their faces.

I’m going to Michigan for the holiday weekend. Family gathering!
alpheratz and Carden are coming with me. May the little gods of long car trips and family gatherings be with us.
