Picking Wedlock: Women and the Courtship Novel in Spain Shifra Armon. This is an academic book, I presume by a specialist in either early-modern Spanish history or literature. It's really interesting in topic, but really dryly and academically written prose-wise. The discussions of how courtship novels illustrated life options for women of the day and modeled courting behavior were great; the last chapter's argument that three specific novels were allegories for the Spanish succession crisis seemed a little more of a stretch. But what do I know? I'm not an early-modern Spanish history specialist.

Really want to write a fantasy novel set in a version of early-modern Spain.

The problem with starting a new job is that you don't have a nice log of sick time built up that you can use to take a mental health day. Gotta keep swimming.

I checked a lot of tasks off today, though, so maybe tomorrow I can write? If my brain is up to it.

For those playing the home game, I bought a bookshelf on Sunday and still haven't brought it in the house, much less put it together.
