empires in akron and columbus, oh, 7.11 and 7.12
octette and I drove to Ohio for some Empires shows. Empires are... still Empires. The good and the ridiculous of what that implies.
They're still playing the same set list as last year's tours, which makes sense as they don't have new stuff yet and they took that seven-month break from touring. Sean made some cryptic statements about their timeline for new stuff and/or touring, which Tom then contradicted, so short version is: nobody knows. Mike the drummer is now considered a part of the band, while Julio will be there whenever he can, but he has his own stuff and has to be free, per Tom. So the bassist position will presumably still be rotating.
Sean spent both shows yelling about how everyone should stay after and buy them drinks, and then... not going anywhere near the bar after the set, so I don't know what that was about. Also Tom is unfairly attractive.
In other news, if you're ever in Columbus you should get a tattoo at IHeartTattoos (technically it's in Clintonville, but Columbus blends right into it) and eat whiskey-pecan ice cream at Jeni's. And take many naps.
Also we watched Hackers and omg, baby Jonny Lee Miller. Oh wow.
