god, so angry

So I've been following the ripples through the feminist blogosphere about the guy who shot up a women's fitness class after a course in being a "pick-up artist" failed to get him all the sex he wanted. Tycho and Gabe at Penny Arcade joined in with some fail on the subject, in the last few days; well, Gabe failed, Tycho didn't, for which I do give ( Read more... )

SOCIALLY AWKWARD WOMEN? WHAT ARE THESE STRANGE CREATURES?

I only see one in the goddamn mirror every day.

But women don't have thoughts or feelings, how could we be awkward? :(

Even if women scare you? SHOOTING THEM IS PROBABLY NOT THE ANSWER, JESUS FUCKING CHRIST.

And maybe he couldn't pick up girls because he was clearly a lunatic. EVER THINK OF THAT, MR? IT'S NOT THE SCARY WOMEN REJECTING YOUR BEAUTIFUL SOUL, IT'S THAT YOU'RE A CREEP. Rawr.

And what do you want to bet he thought he was a Nice Guy, and that that's why he couldn't get laid?

OMG that casting call. "Actress must be physically thin." What other thin is there? Mentally? "Please be mentally thin, so you won't think too hard about this stupid character you're going to be playing."

She needs to be thin *in her soul*.

Hee! The newest quest for thinness! "Well, make sure you're not fat INSIDE, too."

Unrelated to serious business, the venue just e-mailed me telling me I could also win meet & greet passes via Twitter. Tell me not to do this.

I just hate this construction of this crime as "He was frustrated because women wouldn't sleep with him." No, he was crazy and hated women and thus couldn't connect with them. I don't know how to explain this, but that first sentence I wrote there - which I keep hearing and reading every single time the local news talks about this - is just wrong; it makes it sound like it's just not his fault.

I also hate the way that they talk about this as some guy coming into that gym to randomly shoot whoever (which is sometimes the way they make it sound). He came to SHOOT WOMEN, people. I know that's a distraction from your point, sorry; I just had to vent it a little.

No, absolutely. He was crazy, he hated women, and there was a system set up (the PUA stuff) that he was able to slip into and fit in well enough, with people willing/able to overlook the crazy, that nobody ever thought anything of it until it was too late. Because conceptualizing women as video games and wanting to learn the cheat codes is acceptable, and he could mimic that.

If you ever feel like writing this--or having a dialogue on it--I think it's something that'd go great on our blog. I have a friend who really wants to be a nice guy (as opposed to a Nice Guy) but even he falls into this sometimes. We go around and around and at least he listens and is open to change but this attitude! Gah! See, it bugs me so much I ramble!

Yeah, that could definitely be an interesting dialogue. If I have some time at work tomorrow I'll shoot you an e-mail. :)
