In which I swear and swoon over the weekly TV series episodes, obviously with spoilers.
Once Upon a Time - 2x09 - Queen of Hearts
My first reaction: SAODSOAHDOHOSHSOH
The second: OMG! WHAT AN EPISODE!
Really this show started out as some town drama with absolutely non-existent fantasy plot, and now, look at it! JUST LOOK AT ITS AWESOMENESS!
So while I loved the first season, I loved it mostly for the characters (omg Regina and then Gold! Finally a TV show with loveable and tragic villains!) and not the plot. And the Snow and Charming love story was too cheesy for my liking, but maybe I just hated David and Mary Margaret (my parents got divorced, and my life went hell from that point, it’s probably why I hate the cheating thing in any kind of medium).
I didn’t think I’d ever say this, but right now this is the best show I’m watching. It always delivers what’s promising: FAMILY drama above all else, and I love that while Emma has chemistry with a few characters, the writers don’t push the whole romance thing.
(And let’s mention the strong female characters! I absolutely adore this; finally not just the men are badass. And yes, they say that’s why there is so many GLBT people watching this. I admit it, I’m one, too. I’d totally love it, if at least one femslash ship would happen. But if not that, at least we have Lana Parrilla and her awesome attitude toward the GLBT community.)
Although I SHIP SO HARD! And what an awesome source of subtexts this episode was! The whole Mulan/Aurora ‘I’ll bring your heart back’ was just too much to handle. And the Swan Queen scenes! Awww, Regina saved Emma, and they finally just talked, like all the resentment Emma felt - like, when she blamed Regina of all people in the Fairytale Land - just up and vanished. AND ARG! THE SCENE IN GOLD’S SHOP JUST KILLED ME! Poor Regina they left all alone - my mother commented on this (very matter-of-factly): “Why didn’t she go with them? Why did she need permission?” Well, it’s a good question, but come on, she was the main villain, everyone hates her, obviously she thinks Emma and MM and David wouldn’t want her anywhere near Henry. But at least Henry hugged her, that felt good to my poor Team Regina heart.
And HOOK! AND CORA! I love me some complex villain character, really, but while I could get used to Hook (I fell in love with him, I regret nothing), I still don’t like Cora. Yeah, it was really touching to hear Regina (and again it adds to her character, not Cora’s), talking to her presumably dead mother, but I can’t figure out Cora’s motives. I doubt she just wants to be a parent now, no matter how twisted idea she has of that.
So all in all it was a perfect episode, with lots of subtext. omg, I haven’t even mentioned the Hook/Emma interaction, the cell scene was absolutely wonderful, I felt that Hook maybe really was disappointed in Emma a little and hurt by her actions. I know Hook looks out for only himself, but Milah - I hate her, btw, because she’s exactly like my father - was kinda the fighter girl, only self-centered, and Emma is a fighter, but caring. So that’s why I ship them so hard. AND THE SWORDFIGHTING SCENE WAS TOO MUCH FOR MY HEART!
Episode Rating: ABSOLUTE FAVORITE!
666 Park Avenue - 1x09 - Hypnos
Why do I watch this show? I have no idea. Yeah, I’m a liar, it’s Terry O’Quinn. I like him as an actor, and the show’s synopsis was interesting enough, no matter how bad the books are. At least it has no resemblance to that, not that this makes it any better.
What I don’t like: the utter lack of characterization. Honestly, Gavin is the only one I like, and while I’m watching an ep this is what’s playing in my head: Is it Gavin? No? NO? WHEN THERE WILL BE GAVIN? So yeah.
Goldberg’s guest starring saved some of this episode, and finally, we found out that the key is time-travel. It would be so much better, if I CARED FOR SOMEONE BESIDE GAVIN. And yay for the really predictable love triangle, by the way, I have no idea why Jane is with Henry, they have absolutely zero in common…
The ending? It wasn’t a shocker, but oh my, O’Quinn’s acting!
Episode Rating: I’d rather poke my eyes out than watch this again.
Arrow - 1x08 - Vendetta
Why do I watch this show? BECAUSE SUPERHEROES, AND EFFING DC COMICS THAT’S WHY. Also, one of my friends said there’s incest subtext in it. So yeah, I’m watching for that, too. Thea and Oliver’s relationship is so dynamic and complex, this is the show’s strong point, apart from Oliver’s moral dilemma.
And while in this episode there are a lots of ‘oh, my God, I’m so damaged’ and ‘I’m so lonely’ moments, it didn’t save it. I, for one, missed Thea, and I was happy to see, she has a really father-daughter relationship with Walter. Walter is a surprisingly likeable character, and I liked the fact that he’s investigating on his own, if this plotline wouldn’t have been in this ep, I think I’d throw something against the wall in my frustration.
The Oliver/Laurel thing is a big no-no for me, I can’t feel the chemistry there, so I don’t care about them. Okay, Oliver is/was in love with her, but I think, he just feels bad and guilty for what he’s done to her. Tommy and Laurel on the other hand are cute, but I don’t like Laurel enough to ship it. So I literally cringed at the restaurant scene, it was cheesy (everything with Helena is cheap and cheesy) and not necessary, I can’t believe it that Helena flipped out only because of this… It was a little overly dramatic, though I liked the Tommy-Oliver moments. It shows that they are both changing.
All in all, it was the worst episode so far (but not a terrible episode on its own), I think the Helena plotline is just a filler thing, and I missed Thea so much.
Episode Rating: It was okay.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit - 14x09 - Dreams Deferred
This show is kind of the first one I’ve ever watched. I started is as a kid, (I wasn’t even 18 years old, so it hit me hard), but I absolutely love it. It perfectly paints a grim picture of the world, and I even read books like this show. I love the drama and the realistic endings. So, not much on this one, just one thing: It was flawless as ever, showing the not so bright side of prostitution. It was more drama than crime, but I loved it anyway, maybe more. It reminded me of a book: Tricks by Ellen Hopkin.
Episode Rating: ABSOLUTE FAVORIT!
Supernatural - 8x09 - Citizen Fang
Why do I watch this show? Personal reasons. Mostly, I see the show as me, I’m depressed, an outcast, etc. So I love the dark and edgy supernatural drama. But unfortunately, this beautiful show has its ups and downs. And it was so down… I don’t even want to write about it.
Benny. Why? Benny was a plotline put to the side, and he doesn’t really have a built character, so he’s boring with the whole ‘Interview with the Vampire’ feelings. This episode was a big let down, we went nowhere, Dean was a dick as usual, and then Amelia happened. I don’t know how to feel about her, I get why Sam needed a girl, and the flashbacks weren’t annoying, but weren’t good either. Meh. Another typical filler episode.
Episode Rating: I’d rather poke my eyes out than watch this again.
The Vampire Diaries - 4x08 - We’ll Always Have Bourbon Street
This episode was full of shit. They had Elena raped by Damon, and then the issue wasn’t even mentioned. Yeah, I get it, It’s Not Rape, If You Enjoyed It, but come on. Damon raped Caroline, and she hates him, even though she found him sexy, so it’s not a good enough reason. And this flashback had a point? Yeah, we had Lexi (WHY?), and we saw how Damon was sacrificing everything for Stefan since, like, FOREVA. We get it, Damon has puppy eyes and angst. Caroline yet again was a Bitch, though I loved her character since S2, I can’t anymore. She judged Bonnie (they don’t even know if Shane is evil, it’s beside the point that we know) and Elena, but SHE DATES AND USES KLAUS. In what universe is this okay?
The writers didn’t put effort into the plot either… the 12 sacrifices thingy was just lost in the midst of the gaping plotholes. Damon didn’t know about the sire thing, didn’t consider to be an option (I know, she wanted Elena desperately), BUT had Charlotte sired to him? And it’s a one in a million thing? And then they try to explain it with this: basically if you love someone and he/she turns you than you’re, BAMM!, sired to them. Oookay. It doesn’t really make any sense, because then Stefan and Damon needed to be sired to Katherine AND THEY AREN’T.
And then Damon kills twelve people and goes away without making sure Charlotte’s been unsired? Fuck logic, right?
Episode Rating: I’d rather poke my eyes out than watch this again.
