not one that *actually* works. as in, actually gets things to play on an ipod. i have one that sort of works. but not where it counts. so it's really not even worth mentioning. but as soon as i find that magical program, you will be the first to know.
There are actually a lot of programs that do that called transcoders. Personally, I use MediaCoder, which includes a build specifically designed to convert video into iPod formats.
The Mediacoder website says it will work with Wine, but I don't know how you feel about dealing with that. Here's a few I've found. I don't use a Mac, so I can't personally vouch for any of them.
Oh yeah.... I keep forgetting you have a Mac. There used to be a website I used that converted video... trying to remember what it was called. Something like Vidorec or something.

Also that is some big-time fail.WTF, program-creators. Get on that.
Although I have a feeling that some of the paid programs might work better...
