I'm so sorry to hear of your loss, especially of the circumstances. I can't imagine dropping in on Dad on Father's Day to find him dead.

It sounds like he was a fun-loving and interesting person to be around. I'm glad that with time you are beginning to cope with your grief and remember him in happy times.

Oh, Inky - I missed this news back in June and I'm dreadfully sorry!!! OMG - I know what you've been going through, since I lost my own father many years ago now. :( Bless your heart - I'm sorry to be so self-absorbed.

My father-in-law is 89 and slowing down day by day, so the whole family wonders which one of us is going to find him out in his garden or in his favorite chair. Oh gosh - it's devastating, but I think most people would rather leave while they are at home and surrounded by memories. And it sounds as if you gave him the perfect send-off.

Don't feel bad, SIP, sometimes I go for months without even looking at Livejournal or Facebook, and feel really guilty about what I might have missed! :D

We all sort of expected my Dad to die slowly in the hospital from lung cancer, the way he smoked. I'm sure it's better that he went quickly. But, yeah, I still miss him a lot.
