My father died last week, suddenly, of a cardiac arrest during the night. Dad always insisted he did not want a funeral, he wanted a party where we had bluegrass music, and his ashes would be there in a coffee can. So we did, and it went beautifully

It sounds like he was a fun-loving and interesting person to be around. I'm glad that with time you are beginning to cope with your grief and remember him in happy times.

My father-in-law is 89 and slowing down day by day, so the whole family wonders which one of us is going to find him out in his garden or in his favorite chair. Oh gosh - it's devastating, but I think most people would rather leave while they are at home and surrounded by memories. And it sounds as if you gave him the perfect send-off.

We all sort of expected my Dad to die slowly in the hospital from lung cancer, the way he smoked. I'm sure it's better that he went quickly. But, yeah, I still miss him a lot.
