Sunset Icons

I made icons today.  This is a new thing for me...and proof of the lengths I will go to in doing anything but revision.
I read a few tutorials, but any advice from people who actually know how to make pretty icons would be very welcome.  I'm particularly wondering: do people usually upload the images straight onto livejournal or save them on

Image quality shouldn't matter wherever you upload. PNG format is generally preferred, though.

Oh, and I'm not sure what you use, but I've uplaoded a copy of Photoshop CS3 somewhere. Do you want it?

Meh, I don't know what PNG is. Is is like JPEG? A format you save the picture as?

I used Picnik, an online site photo-image thingy that sarahetc mentioned as being fun. Photoshop would definitely be nice!

Heh, I had a phase of photographing sunsets for ages...

Yeah, it's like JPEG but higher-quality. It also preserves transparency and such.
