“Number Two, no!”

Number Two was short for Tetsuya Number Two. And Tetsuya Number Two was a happy, playful pup that was currently making off with one of their basketballs. It wasn’t because Number Two was unsuccessfully trying to get the ball out the door that Riko yelled. It was because -

“W - oof,” the puppy cried as it went sliding in a messy puddle of soda.

She didn’t know who had been drinking it, but she was going to find the culprit. And that person would clean the entire gymnasium, top to bottom, ceiling and all. Number Two was leaving sticky paw prints every where. Albeit, not on the ceiling, but it wouldn’t hurt to have a sparkly clean ceiling too.

Time to play detective. “All right, boys.” Her teammates instinctively took a step back from where they had crowded to watch the show (because Number Two figure-skating in soda wasn’t something they got to see every day). “Who did it?” She wasn’t a very good detective, admittedly, but what she lacked in subtlety, she made up for in determination.

Hyuuga pointed to Kiyoshi, who wasn’t being subtle either - because he was hiding his hands behind his back and looking guiltier than anyone else. “Ask this guy.”

“Did you spill something?” she demanded, but Kiyoshi suddenly appeared relieved. Her confusion escalated as she asked, “What are you grinning about?”

“Oh, I thought you wanted to know who -”

Izuki slapped a hand over his teammate’s mouth. “Don’t listen to him. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Oh, look, what a lovely butterfly!”

Everyone turned to look outside, through the open doors to the darkened school grounds. It was quiet enough to hear a cricket chirp. “There’s no butterfly,” Kagami deadpanned, since Kuroko was asleep on the bench and someone had to do it.

Riko cleared her throat, and then promptly got back to the matter at hand. “So who did do it?”

Mitobe shrugged, Koganei twiddled his thumbs and whistled in that I am innocent, please ignore me way, while the first years made like Kuroko and tried to disappear. Tsuchida grabbed one of those aforementioned first years by the back of the gym shirt, grinning. “Where are you off to, hm, Kawahara?”

“We didn’t do it!” the younger boy pleaded not-guilty. The two other first years that weren’t on the starting team nodded their heads vigorously.

Studying them closely, Riko sighed and said, “Let him go. He didn’t do it. That leaves …” She glared at Kagami, the last possible suspect on her list.

“Oi, wait a minute here.” The redhead held his hands up in surrender. “I didn’t do anything. I don’t even drink soda!” Something that looked suspiciously like a soda can rolled out Kagami’s bag at that precise moment, as if a ghost had helped to reveal their culprit.

“The evidence says otherwise,” Riko said in her best detective voice. There was varying degrees of laughter, but she quickly put an end to that when she smiled and said, “Extra training for anyone that just laughed.”

There were groans and moans and lots of complaints, but the boys got to work before it became double the extra practice. Meanwhile, Riko gave Kagami a stern talking - about soda and its effects on the body and how it didn’t belong at practice - and on the other side of the gym, Kuroko cracked open an eye and wondered if everyone had forgotten him again. Since that had been his soda can.
