So, I'm stuck in Seoul. I ran into two Canadians also headed to Ulan Baatar, and wandered about the city with them when we found out the flight was delayed. They are both named Bruce. One Bruce has a son teaching English in Seoul, so we met up with him for dinner. The night was good, until we got back to the airport and found out the flight was now delayed until 3:30 am, not 12 am as previously noted. At 2am, they pushed it back again until 6:30 am. No check in desk ever appeared. Suddenly, the board showed that the flight was boarding, and we hadn't ever seen any place to check in. Turns out there was a mysterious (non-existant?) Check in desk last night, and that all the other passengers found it (with the exception of two Mongols, in the same boat as us). The info desk called the airline, and they refused to let us on the flight, or even talk to us. Here's the email to my coordinators:
*******
I was unable to board the MIAT flight this morning. The check-in desk never opened this morning 2 hours prior to departure, as we had been told it would. Apparently, a mysterious MIAT check-in desk was open last night, but there was no information as to where to find it, or that it even existed. I am currently with two Canadians who also missed the flight. We were told that Korean Air might honor our tickets and let us on a 5:00 PM flight to Ulan Baatar, but we are concerned that our tickets will not be honored.
I am unsure what action to take; MIAT claims that all the other passengers (except for two other Mongolians) got checked in without a problem, and were unwilling to come and talk to us. At the Korean Airlines desk, the lady turned us away before we could explain our situation, because our tickets are for MIAT. The information desk lady maintains that Korean Airlines is responsible for MIAT flights, though, and that we should try and check in again at 3:00.
